‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Star Teases Their Surprise Return in Long-Awaited Sequel
The comedy sequel is expected to land on Netflix in 2025.
What Can Fans Expect From ‘Happy Gilmore 2’?
Netflix officially ordered a sequel to Sandler’s 1996 comedy, and immediately tapped into the nostalgic run of legacy sequels that have been delivering some big hits and even bigger misses. The question is, how willHappy Gilmore 2stack up in the legacy sequel rankings between the mightyTop Gun: Maverickand the disappointment of Disney’s sequel series,Willow?
With Sandler returning as the titular character and penning the script alongside the original movie’s writer, Tim Herlihy, it is possible that the film could maintain the same kind of comedy that made the original movie a hit, and ultimately made it popular enough for a sequel to be attempted after almost 30 years. For the sequel, Sandlerreunites withMurder MysterydirectorKyle Newacheck, with the filmmaker behind the likes ofWhat We Do in the Shadows, Workaholics, Community, andParks and Recreationtaking over the helm fromHappy Gilmoredirector Dennis Dugan.

Obviously, one of the biggest draws of the sequel is the fact that the film brings back many of the original players from the first movie, with notable exceptions of those who have sadly passed away, includingThe Price is Righthost Bob Barker, Carl Weathers, and Joe Flaherty. The return of Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin was essential to the film’s potential to really bring back the feel of the 1996 hit, but with so many other stars also ready to play again, it is hard to see how the film can fail to connect with both those who loved the original movie, and those who have been fans of Sandler’s several years of critically divisive Netflix projects.
We will all discover whetherHappy Gilmore 2can land a hole in one on July 23, 2025.
