The newDandadananimehas impressed the entire fan base with its gorgeous animation and no-holds-barred adaptation of Yukinobu Tatsu’s absolutely bonkers manga. As well as capturing the attention of general audiences,Dandadan (2024)has caught the eye of a modern icon of video games, and one of X’s most followed unofficial critics…Hideo Kojima.The mastermind behind theMetal Gearvideo game series,Death Stranding, and the criminally abandonedPT(Playable Teaser) has taken to the social media platform to share his honest opinion about the new anime.
Following the show’s premiere on Netflix and CrunchyRoll, Hideo Kojima gave a glowing report to his army of fans. It shouldn’t be too surprising that Kojima is a fan ofDandadan. The video game creator is known for his outlandish, formula-breaking, and oftenstraight-up bizarre video games,so a big-budget anime about aliens, ghosts, and missing testicles is right up his street. He began his unofficial review by prefacing that, like the majority of viewers, he had never read the manga. But, he grew up obsessing over UFOs and the paranormal, and instantly knew thatDandadanwould be the series for him. Kojima wrote:
“I got a bit tired of reading so browsed my subscription. Saw the anime “Dandadan” was up, so I decided to watch the first episode. I haven’t read the original manga, but being from the generation that loves the occult and UFOs, it really hit home. I used to skim through “Mu” magazine too. I like Science SARU’s unique use of lenses and their animation style. It’s also reassuring to know that Naoyuki Onda, someone from my generation, is handling the character designs. Shion Wakayama is in it too. I’ll keep watching this.”
The first episode ofDandadanwas released onNetflixand Crunchyroll on October 3. New episodes will release weekly on both streaming platforms.

As well as potentially being the biggest anime of the year,Dandadanis by far the most bizarre.The pilot episode of any anime is usually weighed down with exposition, introducing the main character(s), their background, and their ultimate goal in life; be it to become king of the pirates (One Piece), save their demonic sister (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yabia), or touch a pair of boobs (Chainsaw Man) — we all forgot how weirdChainsaw Manwas. But, after the first episode ofDandadan, the entire fan base (who haven’t read the manga) feel more confused than ever.
Crunchyroll Just Added These Horror Anime for Free
This Halloween, Crunchyroll is offering these spine-chilling horror anime for free.
The episode introduced its two leading characters, Momo and Okarun. One is abig believer in UFOs, while the other wholeheartedly believes in ghosts. In an attempt to prove each other wrong, they set out to visit abandoned locations where UFOs and ghosts have been reported. Unfortunately for the pair, they’re just as wrong as each other. Momo gets kidnapped by alien doctors attempting to harvest her reproductive organs, while Okarun comes face to face with a centuries-old, incredibly horny granny spirit. What’s to come is a mind-boggling adventure filled with stunning animation, amazing music, and a perilous hunt to recover Okarun’s missing testicles.
