“Making this series has been a huge undertaking for our team. Getting access to never-before-seen video, never-before-heard tapes, access to people who have never previously spoken about the case, whilst also balancing the sensitivities of the families, after decades of quiet heartbreak and strength, has been inspiring to be part of. We have huge respect for the police investigation which led to Fred and Rose West being held responsible for the crimes.”
10 Best Detective Series Based on Real Cases
There have been countless shows over the years that have utilized real stories and top acting talent.
This isn’t the first time the Wests have been the subjects of a documentary, as Channel 5, Discovery Networks Europe, and ITV have all aired numerous tales in the past which examined their brutal crimes. Fred West died in 1995 after he fatally asphyxiated himself at HM Prison Birmingham, while Rose is still alive and well, serving out a life sentence at HM Prison New Hall, Flockton, West Yorkshire.

‘A British Horror Story’ Has Been a Success for Netflix
In its short history,A British Horror Storyhas beena successful true-crime series for Netflix, as the first installment put a microscope on one of Britain’s most prolific sex offenders, Jimmy Saville. The late television personality spent his life dodging claims of sexual abuse, but it wasn’t until after his death in 2011 at the age of 84 that the scope of his crimes was revealed.
Premiering on Netflix in 2022,Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Storyspanned two episodes and quickly became one of the streamers' most popular true crime docuseries at the time. It sits at 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, with the consensus being that it’s a chilling look at how a monster such as Savile could hide in plain sight.

Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Storywill look to have the same success as its predecessor, and given the public’s pension for juicy tales of murder and mayhem, it may just end up being even more popular than the Saville docuseries. Look for all three episodes of the new season ofA British Horror Storyto drop on Netflix on July 19, 2025.
