One, Two, Freddy’s coming to Hulu! The vast majority of originalA Nightmare on Elm Street moviesare heading to the streaming service in May. Currently, this iconic horror series isn’t available on Netflix or any other major streaming service. So, if you’re a horror fan who doesn’t already own the massive box set, or are just too lazy to get off the couch and pop in the DVDs, then this is good news.
This lineup is of the original franchise run. It doesn’t include 2003’sFreddy vs. Jason, which might bum out many hardcore horror fans. It also doesn’t include the 2010A Nightmare on Elm Streetremake, which stars Jackie Earle Haley as the infamous Freddy Krueger, instead of franchise mainstay andhorror icon Robert Englund. Though, given the general thoughts from fans of the franchise on the Platinum Dunes remake, that may not be such a bad thing. Despite the omissions, this makes for quite the potential horror movie binge next month for anyone who’s looking to fill up a Saturday with some supernatural slasher goodness.
The firstA Nightmare on Elm Streetwas released in 1984 and introduced the world to Freddy Krueger. Not to be dramatic, but the horror world was never quite the same. It spawned one of thelongest-running horror franchises in historyand birthed a true horror icon who would likely wind up on the Mount Rushmore of slashers, were there to be such a thing. Like all franchises, there have been low points, butDream WarriorsandNew Nightmareare two of the best and most inventive horror sequels ever. So if you’ve never seen them, next month gives you a great opportunity to do so.
For now, going through a marathon of the originalNightmare on Elm Streetmovies is the best anyone can do. The 2010 remake pretty much killed the franchise for a while. There have beenplans for an Elm Street rebootever since, withThe Conjuring 2writer David Leslie Johnson still reportedly attached to write it. However, we haven’t had any significant updates on that front in quite some time. While we wait for some news on a newNightmare on Elm Streetmovie, you can sleep easy, or perhaps uneasy, knowing you can watch the original movies onHuluin the very near future.
