Fans eager to return to the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina got a bit of a surprise last year when it was revealed that aOne Tree Hillreboot was in the works atNetflix. However, don’t get your hopes up just yet, as nothing has been made official according to starHilarie Burton. That being said, she does feel “confident” that the streaming service will be happy with what she and fellow co-starSophia Bushare putting together, enough for them to want to give the pair the go ahead to move the reboot into production.
Burton, who starred inOne Tree Hillas Peyton Sawyer for the first six seasons, spoke toDeadlineabout the reboot to sing the praises of executive producer and showrunner Becky Hartman Edwards. Though Edwards had no involvement in the original series, she has a good grasp of things thanks to her work as producer on other hit shows such asVirgin RiverandSwitched at Birth, and she’s an accomplished writer, penning scripts for both series, and many others.

“Our showrunner, Becky Hartman Edwards, is so good at female friendships and multi-generational shows, and that’s why we were so excited to team up with her. I feel very confident in what’s being presented.”
One Tree Hill: 20 Best Episodes of the Series, Ranked
One Tree Hill gave us plenty of drama over nine seasons, but which episodes were just better than others?
Word oftheOne Tree Hillrebootgot out back in August 2024, but Burton also mentioned that it was a bit early to let things slip, considering that Netflix had yet to give the series the green light. “When it was kind of leaked, it was very, very, very early in the game,” she told Deadline. “So we’re in the process of presenting things to Netflix, and they will get to decide whether or not it’s greenlit. But I think the more people show that they’re excited about it, the better.”

Sophia Bush Calls ‘One Tree Hill’ A “Comfort Show”
Premiering on The WB back in 2003,One Tree Hillhelped define a generation, and is often cited as one of thegreatest teen dramas ever made. Lasting for nine seasons, the series racked up numerous award nominations throughout the course of its run, and its rabid fan base can still be heard today talking about the exploits of half-brothers Lucas and Nathan Scott.
Bush, who starred as Brooke Davis in the series and – like Burton – is also excited about the reboot, calledOne Tree Hilla “comfort show” for many when she spoke to Deadline in December, adding that she thinks people will be pleased with the results if Netflix gives them a chance.

“The fans have kept that show alive, and they’ve asked for it for so long, and the studio came to us about it. I think 10 years ago, I would have said ‘not on your life.’ And now I realize that the opportunity to have not just a comfort show, but kind of a home base, matters for people. And so, beginning to figure out how we might tell these stories and reunite our whole ragtag bunch feels really, really amazing. If it happens, I think you’ll be very pleased.”
There’s no word on how far along Burton, Bush and Edwards are in the process of putting the reboot together, so here’s hoping we get some more news in the coming months, and that it’s positive. In the meantime, you can check out all nine seasons ofOne Tree Hillstreaming now on Hulu.
