Back in October 2014,MarvelStudios unveiled their massivePhase Threelineup, an announcement that was made months beforePhase Twocame to a close withAnt-Man. Since the studio had set movies all the way through 2019, many wondered if there was room for anAnt-Mansequel. The studio confirmed in October thatAnt-Man and the Waspwill be hitting theaters on August 16, 2025. Superhero Hype recently caught up with starPaul Rudd, who revealed he never knew if a sequel was happening, and that he’ll start writing the script in the near future.
“I know that when I signed up for it that there was always the potential that they’d do another one or it would tie in in some way, but specifically, I wasn’t aware and I’m still not totally aware of how that’s the case. We are doing a second one, so those meetings are starting to be scheduled and underway as far as what it’s going to be. We’ll start writing it soon.”
In December, we reported thatPaul Ruddwill team up withAnt-Manproduction writers Gabriel Ferrari andAndrew Barrer, who will all co-write the script based on a story they have developed withAdam McKay. While Gabriel Ferrari andAndrew Barrerdidn’t receive screenplay credit on the first movie, they worked on the script for six months while the movie was inproduction. The actor-writer also talked about how easyMarvelhas been when it comes to scheduling and working around other projects.
“It’s been very easy.Marvel’s been great, as far as if I have something else and they’ll work around it. It’s not like I’m working on a series which might be a little trickier as far as schedule. I worked onCaptain America: Civil Warand I didn’t really work on it for very long, but as far asAnt-Man 2, I already know when that’s going to go, so you just kind of plan accordingly. If anything comes along that I can film before or after and it works out time-wise and it makes sense, Marvel’s been supportive.”
Ant-Man and the Waspwill bring back bothPaul Ruddas Scott Lang/Ant-ManandEvangeline Lillyas Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp.Peyton Reedis coming back to direct, but no specific story details have been released at this time.
