Outspoken transgender rights supporter andThe Last of UsstarPedro Pascaltook to Instagram recently to slamHarry PotterauthorJ.K. Rowlingfor celebrating the U.K. Supreme Court’s ruling that transgender women should not be recognized as women under Britain’s Equality Act. Pascal’s sister, Lux, came out as transgender in 2021, and has regularly appeared on red carpets with her brother, who has shownnothing but support for the LBGTQ+ communityover the years.
Rowling took to social media to celebrate the ruling on April 16, posting a photo of herself holding a glass of wine and smoking a cigar. The caption read, “I love it when a plan comes together,” which was in reference to her financially backing the campaign group For Women Scotland, which had a big impact on bringing the legal proceedings to court in the first place. In a video posted on Instagram by activist Tariq Ra’ouf that showed Rowling’s photo and explained her role in the campaign, Pascal took to the comments section to voice his displeasure, writing:

“Awful disgusting S**T is exactly right. Heinous LOSER behavior.”
David Tennant Responds to ‘Harry Potter’ Casting Chances With a Candid Swipe at J.K. Rowling
David Tennant has reminded everyone of his fractured relationship with the ‘Harry Potter’ author.
“Right as usual,” replied one fan, adding: “It’s so horrific seeing people being so proud of this kind of hate.” “Thank you for your support, it means so much,” wrote another. Many others chimed in to back Pascal and Ra’ouf, claiming that they’ll continue to boycott all thingsHarry Potter, including the upcoming Max series that will once again adapt Rowling’s novels with a whole new cast of characters.

Pedro Pascal Isn’t the Only One Upset with J.K. Rowling
Rowling’s views on transgender individuals were first brought to light in 2018 when she liked a social media post that described them as “men in dresses.” Ever since, she’s become more and more outspoken about her views on gender identity, claiming that “there are no trans kids,” and that “no child is born in the wrong body.” The recent U.K. Supreme Court ruling essentially states that trans women whose affirmed gender had previously been recognized by the government will no longer be considered women under existing equality laws.
The world’s richest author has since been labeled as transphobic by many, and her recent photo celebrating the court’s ruling and her participation in making it happen hasn’t exactly earned her any new fans. In addition to Pascal sharing his thoughts on the matter,Bridgertonstar Nicola Coughlan posted to her Instagram Stories, calling it “a new low” for Rowling, while also adding in a video seen above:

“To see an already-marginalized community to be further attacked in law is really stomach-turning and disgusting, and these people celebrating it are more stomach-turning and disgusting.”
“Keep your newHarry Potterlads,” Coughlan also said in her Instagram Story, noting that she wouldn’t go nearthe upcoming Max series"with a ten-foot pole." Her sentiments are echoed by many who were once fans of the books and movies, but have since turned their back on the wizarding world due to its creators' stance on transgender rights. How all this will affect theHarry Potterseries in the long run remains to be seen, but it’s clear that many who once would have been eager to tune in will now be opting to watch something else instead.
