TheAvengers: Age of Ultronpress tour is officially in full swing, which means we’ll be hearing quite a bit from its team of heroes. Yesterday was the first domestic meeting of minds, and the biggest news to come out of the press conferences so far isMark Ruffalo’s claim that a standalone Hulk movie may happen. And as long rumored, it may include the green goliath going into space. Might we finally see the long rumoredPlanet Hulkbecome a reality? Or is Hulk teaming up with Star-Lord and pals forGuardians of the Galaxy 2as long teased on the internet?
To date, Mark Ruffalo’s version of the Hulk has only been seen inMarvel’s The AvengersandAvengers: Age of Ultron. The character did have one movie that is considered part of Phase One, withEdward Nortonplaying Bruce Banner in 2008’sThe Incredible Hulk. And it seems that most people have written off directorAng Lee’s 2003’sHulkas a false start. Sitting beside co-starScarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo had this exchange withIGNwhen asked if there was anywhere the actor would like to see Hulk go next:
“I think there’s a lot of places to go with him [Hulk]…Well he’s going to space. Yeah, I mean there’s some talk of maybe Planet Hulk. I’d be completely interested in entertaining that.”
Scarlett Johanssongoes onto ask, “Do they have a Starbucks there? That’s what I want to know.” And Mark Ruffalo, laughing, answering: “They don’t. It’s pretty bleak.” While it sounds like there are current talks for Planet Hulk, the actor goes onto say that he hasn’t been involved in any active talks for the project, and as you all know, the movie is not part of the Phase 3 slate, which was announced last year. If Planet Hulk goes forward, it might not happen until at least 2020, which is only five years from now. Last July,Kevin Feigeclaimed that there weren’t any plans for a solo Hulk movie anytime soon. And called adapting Planet Hulk a huge challenge.
It has long been rumored that Hulk gets sent into space at the end ofAvengers: Age of Ultron. At this time, no critics have spilled the beans in regards to the sequel’s climactic third act. We may not find out Hulk’s true fate until May 1. But we’ll probably hear about it soon. What do you think? Are you dying to see a Planet Hulk movie? Or does Hulk work better as part of a team?
