As reported byCollider,Apple TV+has announced that they have ordered a limited series based on Scott Turow’s acclaimed novelPresumed Innocent. The eight-episode series will be written byDavid E. Kelley. Kelley will also be serving as executive producer on the series. The writer will be teaming up withJ.J. Abramsand his production company Bad Robot. Abrams and Bad Robot’s Head of Television, Ben Stephenson, will serve alongside Kelly as executive producers.
What Will the Limited Series Be About?
The limited series is a reimagined version of the famous courtroom thriller story. The book was initially published in 1987 and tells the story of the murder of Carolyn Polhemus. The murder takes its toll on the city and puts the Chicago Prosecuting Attorneys' office into chaos when one of its own is suspected of the crime. The book is told through the perspective of Kindle County prosecutor and colleague of the murdered, Rožat “Rusty” Sabich, who is charged with the murder. Rusty fights to clear his name as well as save his personal life and reputation. Harrison Ford, Greta Scacchi, Raul Julia, Brian Dennehy, Paul Winfield and Bonnie Bedelia starred in the previous Alan J. Pakula-directed 1990 film adaptation.
This announcement is the first series ordered by Apple for Kelley, who is also working on several projects, including a Netflix adaptation of A Man In Full alongside Regina King. Bad Robot is also producing a limited series adaptation of the Stephen King novel, Billy Summers. Abrams is no stranger to working with Apple as an executive producer, having served in the role for the streaming service’s series Little Voice and Lisey’s Story. He is also an executive producer on the HBO series Westworld.

The project will be produced by Bad Robot Productions and David E. Kelley Productions in association with Warner Bros. Bad Robot will also be represented by Rachel Rusch Richas co-executive producers. Matthew Tinker and Dustin Thomason will also executive produce through David E. Kelley Productions. Abrams and Thomason worked together on the Hulu series Castle Rock.Presumed Innocentdoes not yet have a release window or date at this time and is still in the early stages. It could take some time to lock them both down and start filming this eight-part series. We will continue to follow this for any new developments, and hopefully soon, we will have a release date.
