Last month, while doing press forThe Martian,Ridley Scottdropped abombshell, revealing that the title for hisPrometheussequel isAlien: Paradise Lost. Many fans were disappointed that 2012’sPrometheusdidn’t have a strong enough connection to his original 1979 classicAlien, but this new title sparked a flurry of both speculation and excitement. We know thatPrometheusstarsNoomi Rapace(Elizabeth Shaw) andMichael Fassbender(David) will reprise their roles, and continue their quest to find the Engineers. During an interview withAwards Campaign,Ridley Scottteased that they won’t be alone on this journey. When asked if his sequel will retain the same look asPrometheus, he had this to say.

“It’s going to be it’s own separate thing because they are going to the planet of the Engineers and they are going to see what happened there. It was a disaster. And they will be in thataliencraft that takes them there, but with a new group that’s incoming, a new group of travelers in the beginning of the first act.”

Unfortunately,Ridley Scottwouldn’t divulge any details about these new characters. It’s worth noting that the filmmaker teased last month thatAlien: Paradise Lostwill connect the originalPrometheustoEllen Ripley(Sigourney Weaver) and the Xenomorphs from the originalAlien. Could Ellen Ripley be one of these new passengers? Ellen Ripley was born in the year 2092 in Olympia, Luna. In 2122 she was employed as Warrant Officer for the Weyland-Yutani corporation and was third in command on the USCSS Nostromo. So, if you factor in the round trip,Aliensupposedly takes place in about 2127. WhilePrometheustakes place in the year 2093. That would make her a newborn baby in the timeline of this sequel. Perhaps we will see her birth? It is speculated that these new explores might be part of a follow up mission from Weyland Corporation. Perhaps it’s a military expedition. Or maybe it’s another lost commercial freighter akin to the Nostromo? No one knows at this point.

It’s most likely possible that these new passengers are from the Weyland Corporation, who are on a follow-up mission chasing afterPrometheus. It’s possible that these travelers could be aboard a lost commercial ship, similar to the Nostromo in the originalAlien. All of this is speculation for now, but with production scheduled to begin in March, hopefully we’ll find out more answers soon. The filmmaker also teased that he has ideas for a third film as well.

Alien

“There is an evolution to this one so if we can get something down I don’t not see how we go [forward without a third].”

Ridley Scottis directing from a screenplay byJack PaglenandMichael Green, and the filmmaker also teased that this follow-up will feature a new alien creature. Do you think Ellen Ripley will be one of the new passengers inAlien: Paradise Lost? Or do you think we’ll meet her parents? Anything is possible, and it could all be directly tied into directorNeill Blomkamp’sAlien 5.
