The Netflix sequel builds on the narrative from its predecessor,Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, where viewers were introduced to a galaxy embroiled in conflict. The second installment thrusts Kora (Sofia Boutella) and her cohort of warriors into an alliance with pastoral villagers, setting the stage for an epic confrontation against the malevolent Imperium forces. One key moment in “The Scargiver” is the death of Gunnar (Michiel Huisman). His demise occurred in the climactic throes of a brutal conflict.
Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver
In an interview withThe Hollywood Reporter, Snyder sheds light Gunnar’s death. He articulated that Gunnar represents a rare form of love for Kora, one that transcends the ongoing war that envelops their lives. Snyder said:
“As far as love goes and loving and the why of loving, Gunnar is probably the first lover she’d had that was transcendent of war. This lover was outside of the conflict, and he was just a guy, really. Gunnar is a good guy, but he’s just a guy. He’s not necessarily a soldier or a leader, and it’s a stepping stone for her. She’s on this journey of catharsis as well, obviously, and Gunnar’s sacrifice is part of that journey.”

This thematic development is typical of Snyder’s work, where character arcs are often intertwined with expansive, visually rich backdrops and high-stakes drama.Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargivercontinues to flesh out its universe with complex relationships and moral conflicts.
Rebel Moon’s co-writer Kurt Johnstad revealed that he and Snyder plan to extend the “Rebel Moon” series into a six-film saga. Their approach reimagines the conventional trilogy format by introducing a split-trilogy structure, wherein each part of the trilogy comprises two films.

Johnstad told Screen Rantthat their team’s extensive preparatory work can carry the franchise well beyond a third installment. The writer said:
“So, basically, we have everything mapped out for many, many movies. Beyond Three. Beyond four. I will go on the record now. We’ve figured this out all the way to movie six. Now, if we are so lucky and fortunate enough to continue telling these stories, that is our hope. Netflix is interested, and we’re waiting to see how these first movies go. But there is certainly a treatment for three and four. We’ve laid out very detailed… All we have to do is start writing.”

Was the Snyder Cut of Rebel Moon Really Necessary?
Zack Snyder seems to believe that audiences can’t get enough of his genius. Is Rebel Moon the project that proves his point?
The decision to expand the initial trilogy into a series of six films was driven by the depth and breadth of the original script, which initially ran over 200 pages. Johnstad said:

“This was always going to be a trilogy, and this is well-known; we’ve talked about this in the press already. When we delivered the first movie, it was two hundred-plus pages. So we were like, “Oh my god.“Then we tried cutting it back to one thirty-five, I think, and we started cutting all of the cool character stuff, and Zack’s like, we need to go back.”
Johnstad’s excitement for the project is clear as he discusses the team’s readiness to move forward once Netflix signals the green light. With Snyder already drafting the early pages of the third movie, the team appears to be ready for rapid production.
