Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jediwas certainly a beloved classic, that closed out the originalStar Warstrilogy and had fans clammoring for more from this galaxy far, far away. Now thatStar Wars: The Force Awakensis a box office blockbuster, the franchise is more popular than ever, withStar Wars: Episode VIIIcurrently in production. During a new interview withCollectively Conscious, Oscar winning animatorPhil Tippettadmitted that he was actually on drugs while working onReturn of the Jedi.
“I took LSD when I was working on Return of the Jedi, and it’s fine. It was, like, very calming. And so I decided to go back to work. When I walked into the blue-screen stage, it was like, ‘Ahhh.’ I took way too much.”
Phil Tippett actually won anOscarfor his work onReturn of the Jedi, and he went on to work on a number of beloved classics such asJurassic Parkand theIndiana Jonesfranchise. Most recently, he worked onStar Wars: The Force Awakens, serving as an animator for the holochess scene. It seems unlikely that the 64-year-old animator used any drugs while working on the latest blockbuster.
We reported yesterday that the movie will have a number of deleted scenes when it is released on home video formats next month. The first deleted scene is calledFinn and the Villager, a title that possibly hints at a moment described in the official book adaptation, which happens before Finn meets Rey and BB-8. The moment finds the AWOL Stormtrooper hitching a ride with a local into town. It’s also speculated that this might be an extended scene from the opening act in the movie, where Finn refuses to kill the family in Lor San Tekka’s village.
The second deleted scene is simply titledJakku Message, and we have no reference to what this particular deleted scene pertains to. Some believe it shows Poe calling the Resistance base to let them know he has the data from Lor San Tekka. He then tells them that things are not going as planned. It is also speculated that this deleted scene may show additional Kor Sella footage. The third deleted scene is quite self-explanatory. It is titledX-Wings Prepare for Lightspeed. And we got a sneak peek at the fourth deleted scene in theStar Wars: The Force AwakensBlu-ray trailer that dropped yesterday. TitledKylo Searches the Falcon, we get to seeKylo Renhunting for Han Solo as he steps aboard the iconic Millennium Falcon.
The fifth deleted scene will explain a toy we’ve seen on store shelves sinceForce Fridaythis past September. TitledSnow Speeder Chase, we’ll finally get to see the new vehicle in action. The final deleted scene hints that we’ll see more of Finn after his deadly confrontation with Kylo Ren. This final cut footage is titledFinn will be Fine.
