Anthony Michael Hall will be making a guest appearance in the flashback episode ofRiverdale, playing Principal Featherhead. The name of the episode is The Midnight Club, which is a play on 1985’sThe Breakfast Club, which starred Hall and Molly Ringwald, who now plays Archie’s attorney mother Mary Andrews in the hit series. Hall’s Principal Featherhead character is drawn into a game played by his students in the highly anticipated flashback episode.

The flashback episode ofRiverdalewill feature the young cast playing their parents. Lili Reinhart is playing a younger version of Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick), Cole Sprouse is playing a young F.P. Jones (Skeet Ulrich), Camila Mendes is playing a young Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols), Madeleine Petsch is playing a young Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt), and KJ Apa is playing a young Fred Andrews (Luke Perry). To celebrate the flashback episode, series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa posted a fun picture of the cast from their real-life yearbook photos, next to a new picture of Anthony Michael Hall.

The flashback episode ofRiverdaleis the fourth episode of season 3, and as previously noted, the episode is entitled The Midnight Club. The episode is inspired by John Hughes' 1980s classic filmThe Breakfast Club, which starred Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez and Ally Sheedy along with Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. Series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says that theBreakfast Clubtheme is something that he has wanted to do for a long time.Riverdale’s reference to the hit 80s movie comes right after the cast ofWonder Woman 1984recreated the iconic poster for the Hughes movie, which quickly went viral.

Anthony Michael Hall was recently seen in AT&T Mobile commercials playing himself as well as a recurring role on the TNT drama seriesMurder in the First. The actor spends much of his time these days helping individuals who struggle to read. Hall partnered with Chapman University in Orange, California to start The Anthony Michael Hall Literacy Club. The literacy club goes about teaching literacy in different and unique ways, sometimes using film and lyrics to popular songs as opposed to books. Hall also sings and writes songs for his band called Hall of Mirrors.
