The late, greatCarl Weatherswill beposthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week, it has been revealed. The official Walk of Fame account took tosocial mediato share the news, with theRockyandPredatoractor receiving one of the coveted stars for “In the category of Sports Entertainment” alongside tennis icon Billie Jean King.

This year, the Hollywood Walk of Fame will also honor the likes ofBlack Pantherstar Chadwick Boseman, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, andWonder Womanstar Gal Gadot, as well as Maggie Gyllenhaal, Chris Meledandri, Chris Pine, Ken Jeong, Mario Lopez, Christina Ricci, Eugene Levy, and Michelle Yeoh.

His family released a statement at the time which read:

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers. He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. … Carl was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner and friend.”

At the time of his passing, Hollywood was quick topay tribute to the beloved actor, with two of Weathers’ best-known co-stars, Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, reflecting on their friendships with Weathers and praising his “greatness.” Stallone wrote:

“Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success… I give him incredible credit. When he walked into that room and I saw him for the first time, I saw greatness but I didn’t realise how great. I never could have accomplished what we did with Rocky without him. He was absolutely brilliant. Rest in power and keep punching.”

Schwarzenegger, meanwhile, who starred alongside Weathers in the firstPredatormovie, described Weathers as a “legend,” a “fantastic actor” and a “great person.”

“Carl Weathers will always be a legend. An extraordinary athlete, a fantastic actor, and a great person. We couldn’t have made Predator without him. And we certainly wouldn’t have had such a wonderful time making it.”

An avid golfer, Weathers was alsohonored recently by the Directors Guild Foundation(DGF), who revealed that their premier annual fundraising event would be renamed. The DGF released a statement at the time which revealed they would pay tribute to the “esteemed DGA member and DGF officer Carl Weathers by renaming their premier annual fundraising event in his honor. Going forward, the Tournament will be officially known as the Directors Guild Foundation Carl Weathers Memorial Golf Tournament.”
