Academy Award nomineeRyan Goslingonce again shows off his ‘Ken-ergy’ in this newly released behind-the-scenes look at the making of the smash hit musical number, ‘I’m Just Ken.’ Coming courtesy ofAtlantic Records, the footage finds Gosling pouring his heart and soul into the ballad, which occurs during the events of the billion-dollar blockbuster that isBarbie. Check out the behind-the-scenes access below.

Gosling singing ‘I’m Just Ken’ is just one of the many highlights from Barbie, with the song finding Gosling’s version of Ken having something of an existential crisis of his own as he wonders why he cannot get the attention and recognition that he feels he deserves from not only his respective Barbie, but the world. The backstage footage really shows how much Gosling lost himself in the role, committing so hard to the moment that, at one point, director Greta Gerwig must stifle her laughter behind her hand.

Barbie & Ken

Alongside major success for the movie itself, theBarbiesoundtrack,Barbie: The Album, has now hit the top of the charts on a variety of streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, with ‘I’m Just Ken’ landing as many as 13 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

“You really fall in love with this hapless, but immediately sympathetic figure,” says ‘I’m Just Ken’ writer and producer Mark Ronson. “I instantly had this idea for this lyric: ‘I’m just Ken / Anywhere else I’d be a 10.’ It just seemed funny. It felt a little bit emo, like, this poor guy. He’s so hot, but can’t get the time of day.”

“He really got [that] it had to walk this line of not being funny or parody,” he adds. “But obviously, the song is also kind of ridiculous at times. So he was really amazing, and when he really did start hitting the big notes, I was like, this dude is a vocal powerhouse!”
