Bad news for the fans of one ofStephen King’soldest and most popular stories. The newSalem’s Lotmovie, which was set to hit theaters next year, may skip theatrical release and debut directly on Max. With the current crisis in Hollywood pausing the production of several films and series, 2024 is starting to look complicated for Max. Although the streaming platform will deliver big releases like the second season ofHouse of the Dragon, many other titles will not be able to meet their debut date, especially if the actors' strike continues.
This scenario has Warner Bros. Discovery thinking about bringing some titles that were going to be released in theaters directly to Max, with the aim of providing a greater amount of content to the streaming platform and nourishing its catalog. According toVariety’ssources,Salem’s Lotwould be on the list of these productions, although “no decision has been made about the film’s future distribution plans.”

Stephen King adaptations have proven to be incredibly successful for Warner Bros. Discovery. A clear example is theItmovies directed by Andy Muschietti, which swept the box office and led the director to join the DCU some time later to directThe Flash, and now he is the one chosen to bring a new Batman to the movies withThe Brave and the Bold.

What to Expect from the Salem’s Lot Movie
Written and directed by Gary Dauberman, one of the great people responsible for the universe ofThe Conjuringand screenwriter of the twoItfilms, the movie is based on King’s second novel published in 1975 after the enormous success of his first book,Carrie.
The story centers on a man named Ben Mears, an established writer who is going through a block and decides to visit the town where he grew up in search of inspiration. Salem’s Lot is the typical American town where everyone knows each other and nothing seems to happen. However, it is perhaps not as quiet a place as it seems. Years ago, Ben made a bet with his friends and had to enter the Marsten mansion…and what he saw there still haunts him.

Ben’s stay in the town will awaken his curiosity, and his investigation leads him to discover a truth much more horrifying and strange than he ever imagined. Salem’s Lot is not just any town, because therein live creaturesthat have dominated the place for years from the shadows.

In 1987 the filmA Return to Salem’s Lotwas released, which in theory worked as a sequel to the previous series, although none of the original cast returned. In 2004, TNT premiered another series based onSalem’s Lot, while the showCastle RockreferencesSalem’s Lot, since it is based on theentire universe of King’s novels.
