ScreamstarMason Goodinghas shared some pretty exciting details about the new film in the franchise,Scream 7. While there have been discussions ofreturning stars and surprising additions, Gooding has addressed the gore element of the film: “Ghostface is absolutely the most brutal he’s been.”
Horror fans are likely drooling overGooding’s conversation with Varietyduring the premiere of his latest film, the Valentine’s Day slasherHeart Eyes. WhileHeart Eyesis doing pretty well in terms of reception (93% score on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing), Gooding also talked aboutScream 7, the sequel to the franchise created by legendary directorWes Cravenand writer Kevin Williamson, which will land in theaters in February 2026:

“It feels like an amplification of what’s came before, and there’s no better indication of that than Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original, is coming back now to direct.
to kind of accentuate that point,I think that Ghostface is absolutely the most brutal he’s been. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s some stuff that they do to the human body that I feel like Kevin is breaking new ground with that, hopefully, fans will enjoy. Or not. It’s pretty gross, but in a good way.”

There was a prosthetic that sat in the makeup trailer that actually turned my stomach over. You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it, but it’s incredible stuff. They really have an incredible effects team over there and they’re working overtime.

With a Year to Go, Here is Everything We Know About ‘Scream 7’
So, there you go. Gooding is excited, as everyone else seems to be about returning to the land of Ghostface and his (or their?) love for horror movies. The actor also spoke aboutreuniting with franchise regular Neve Campbell, who decided to return after sitting outScream VI:
“I get to work with Neve, who I didn’t get a great opportunity to see and talk to on a personal level. So in this case, even just gettingto be around her feels like I’m getting part of that history and I feel better for it.”

Gooding will join otherScreamstars who have signed up for the film, which will hopefully revive the franchise afterit took a bit of a stumble in 2023. Original directorChristopher Landonand stars Melissa Barrera andJenna Ortega “exited” the project. Also returning are Jasmin Savoy Brown, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley, who have appeared in the franchise at some point. We won’t spoil anything else in case you’re not familiar with the firstScreamentries, and don’t know who wore the first Ghostface masks.
Scream 7will also include new cast members Joel McHale, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp, Isabel May, and others. The film’s official release date is June 16, 2025, and plot details have remained under wraps. However, with the surprising return of two legacy characters, we can start assuming thatScream 7’s writer, Guy Busick, will have to find a way to resurrect long-dead villains.
