Since 2008 when Iron Man began theMCU– and what would eventually become the most successful and profitable film franchise of all time – fans have lined up for miles and miles to see their favorite Marvel superheroes appear on the big screen. From Captain America to Thor to Hulk, the MCU created a media conglomerate so vast and popular that the franchise has more future projects planned than they do past projects completed, and that’s truly saying something. At this point, Marvel barely even needs to advertise their upcoming projects since it’s basically a given that fans will watch anything that they put out. Still, one particular new project that audiences are really looking forward to is the Disney+ seriesSecret Invasion.
Centering around the Skrull infiltration of Earth and bringing back classic MCU characters likeSamuel L. Jackson and Cobie Smulders as Nick Fury and Maria Hill, as well as bringing in a plethora of A-list talents such as Emilia Clarke and Olivia Coleman for unconfirmed roles, it’s conclusive to say the hype for Secret Invasion is monumental. With that being said (based on the brief tidbits of leaked info onSecret Invasion), it’s possible that audiences may have already watched a very similar superhero show this very same year – DC’sPeacemaker.

Infiltrated by Alien Species
So,Secret Invasionwill center aroundthe Skrull’s infiltration of everyday society. That was pretty much confirmed with the release of the show’s title. And Skrulls are aliens. If you’ve seen Peacemaker, then you know exactly where we’re going with this because that’s the exact same plot for the HBO Max show.Peacemakercenters around the titular character and his lovable band of misfits attempting to stop an alien infiltration (called Butterflies) of planet Earth.
However, the team learns throughout the series that the Butterflies have already infiltrated every single country on the planet, as well as having Butterflies in several high-ranking positions in governments and militaries. Based on the few brief leaks of whatSecret Invasion’splot will be about, it seems like it will be eerily similar toPeacemaker’swith Nick Fury, Maria Hill, and a surplus of other agents trying to take downthe Skrulls that have infiltrated Earth society. Of course, every superhero movie shares a few minor similarities, but as of what we know now, these two plots seem as though they’ll walk hand-in-hand.

Led by a Queen
InPeacemaker, the Butterflies that had invaded Earth and stolen the bodies of humans were led by a Queen, who was referred to throughout the season as Goff (named after the first human she was inhabiting). The alien was meant to be the antagonist of the series (and she was), but she ended up having a very close bond with Peacemaker despite being different species. It was revealed at the end of the season that she was still hanging around Peacemaker even though he killed the Butterfly’s food supply.

With that in mind, it’s been reported that the Skrulls who have invaded Earth inSecret Invasionwill be led by Veranke, Queen of the Skrulls. She’s the antagonist of theSecret Invasionplotline in the comics, so it only makes sense that she would be leading the invasion of Earth in the MCU. Also, as we mentioned, Olivia Coleman has been cast in a secret role. Anybody familiar with her filmography knows that she has a reputation for playing royal characters (even if this one would be an alien). It was originally reported that Emilia Clarke might be taking the role of Veranke, but recent hints and on-set photos suggest that she might have a different role instead.
Non-Superhero Main Characters/ Team Up with a Rogue Alien
Again, this is all conjecture based on the brief amount of information we have onSecret Invasion.Still, it seems the show’s plot will also mimicPeacemakerin two other notable ways, all revolving around the team that will take the Skrulls down. InPeacemaker, the core group consisted of many other non-super agents who then teamed up with Murn, a rogue Butterfly who understood that what his species was doing to humans and Earth was wrong.

According to reports,Secret Invasionmight be following the exact same premise. Nick Fury and Maria Hill are awesome MCU staples, yet neither are super. It’s also been confirmed from casting that most of their team in the movie won’t consist of superheroes but rather more agents like them. The cherry on top is that Ben Mendelsohn is reprising his role as the Skrull Talos from Captain Marvel and is speculated to be teaming up with Fury and Hill. Also, as we stated before, Emilia Clarke was originally thought to be playing the Skrull Queen, but based on new on-set photos, it appears as though she will be playing a character that might be a rogue Skrull who teams up with Fury to stop her villainous Queen - just like Murn did onPeacemaker.
