Way back in May of 2015, it was heavily rumored that Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson were ready to reunite forShanghai Dawn, the third chapter in theirShanghai Noontrilogy, following the original in 2000 andShanghai Knightsin 2003. Now, it’s being reported that the long awaited sequel is finally moving forward. Both actors will return to their roles as Chon Wang and Roy O’Bannon.

Shanghai Dawnis currently in development at MGM.Napoleon Dynamitedirector Jared Hess will be at the helm of this next Western adventure. Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, who wrote the first two movies, are responsible for the story. Theodore Riley and Aaron Buchsbaum are writing the script.

No story details have been released at this time. The first movie follows the bumbling Chon Wang (Jackie Chan), who works as an Imperial guard in the Forbidden City of China. When Princess Pei Pei (Lucy Liu) is taken hostage, Wang pursues her captors to the wild frontier land of Nevada, where he meets good-natured thief and occasional cowboy Roy O’Bannon (Owen Wilson). Using O’Bannon’s love of money, Wang convinces him to help recover the princess, and together the two form a curious partnership, the likes of which the West has never seen.

In the follow-upShanghai Knights, Chon Wang and Roy O’Bannon are back in the saddle, off the range, and out to settle a score in civilized London. When a Chinese rebel murders Chon’s estranged father and escapes to England, Chon and Roy make their way to London with revenge on their minds.Deadlinereports that Spyglass Entertainment is producing alongside executive producers Millar and Gough.

Jared Hess' long delayed comedyMastermindswill finally be in theaters on September 30. He previously directedDon Verdean, which was released in 2015. Jackie Chan can currently be seen starring opposite Johnny Knoxville in the action comedySkiptrace. He will also be voicing a character inThe Lego Ninjago Movie.Owen Wilsonwill next be seen co-starring inMastermindsopposite Kristen Wiig and Zach Galifianakis.
