Levy told the outlet that Kathleen Kennedy wants to make “a Shawn Levy movie.”

“When Katy Kennedy brought me on board to make aStar Warsmovie, her central mandate to me was ‘I want a Shawn Levy movie. I want a story and a tone that reflects you and your taste and what you bring to your movies — with aStar Warsstory.’ So I have felt extremely empowered. We are in early days, unfortunately, because the development process was abruptly paused [due to the WGA strike], but I feel very empowered to trust my instincts in the development of this story and movie.”

Shawn Levy Said That His Star Wars Project Is Still “In Early Days” of Development
Later, when asked if Levy believedthat helmingDeadpool 3would give him a good idea of what to expect fromStar Wars, theReal Steeldirector said:
“The experience that I’m currently having with Marvel onDeadpoolis showing me firsthand that it is indeed really possible to feel empowered and personal about making a movie within a universe that is bigger than any one film.”

Levy then addressed his work on theDeadpoolsequel, adding that it has made him feel optimistic about his upcomingStar Warsproject:
“MyDeadpoolmovie is turning out to be exactly what Ryan [Reynolds] and I had hoped when we started off. So I’m going into the development of myStar Warsmovie with a similar optimism, and faith that my instincts will be allowed to lead the way.”
While Levy’sStar Warsfilm is still a ways off, his positive update on the project appears to be a good sign for the franchise’s future, considering past reports have indicated that there have been issues with the studio regardingfilmmakers creative control of their work.
An example of this was seen with 2018’sSolo: A Star Wars Story.Solo’soriginal directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were dropped from the project after spending months filming the movie. Ron Howard then took over as their replacement and initiated extensive reshoots. While reports like this have suggested that there are issues regarding directors creative control of their projects, Levy’s update is encouraging.
While we await furtherStar Warsupdates, Shawn Levy’sDeadpool 3is scheduled to be released on August 06, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
