The latestStar Wars: The Rise of SkywalkerTV spot features the red Sith Troopers as they take flight during battle. Not much is known about these elite fighters, but that mystery will be solved in five days. It’s hard to believe, but the final installment in the Skywalker Saga is only days away from hitting theaters.Star Warsfans have been waiting two years to see how the sequel trilogy comes to an end, and J.J. Abrams has brought back some old characters, along with some new ones to finish off the story.
The redSith Troopersare new to theStar Warsfranchise. According to early promotional material, they fight for Kylo Ren and they can be seen doing so inThe Rise of SkywalkerTV spot as they take flight to avoid blaster shots and a downed X-Wing fighter. Even though their suits are pretty similar to a normal Stormtrooper, they appear to be more menacing, which is more than likely due to the red coloring. The red coloring is also reminiscent of the Emperor’s Royal Guard, aka, the Imperial Royal Guard fromReturn of the Jedi.
As for the rest of the footage in the latestStar Wars 9TV spot, it’s mostly made up of things we’ve already seen, though the X-Wing going down is certainly new. Withthe Knights of Renand the Sith Troopers, one has to wonder how much screen time these characters are going to receive. The Knights of Ren were not present inThe Last Jediand were only briefly seen in 2015’sThe Force Awakens. There’s a lot going on and there’s a lot of ground to cover, so one can’t imagine the Sith Troopers will have much time on screen.
J.J. Abrams is back behind the camera forThe Rise of Skywalkerand he broughtEmperor Palpatinewith him. Palpatine actor Ian McDiarmid was shocked to get a call from Abrams, asking him to reprise the role. George Lucas had previously considered the villain to be “absolutely” dead in the franchise, and that’s what McDiarmid thought too. However, Abrams has figured out a way to resurrect him, though we’re not exactly sure how he did it.
The Rise of Skywalkerhits theaters on December 20th and on the 19th for the early Thursday previews. The world premiere will take place tomorrow, with press screenings taking place in the days following. We’re really in the endgame now, so if youdon’t want anything to be spoiled, now is really the time to take a break from certain sites and social media platforms. By tomorrow night, there will be spoilers everywhere and by Tuesday, the whole plot of the movie will be online.
