NBC’sSaturday Night Livereturns after a three-week hiatus this week withGame of ThronesstarPeter Dinklagemaking his hosting debut. Earlier today, theSaturday Night Live YouTubepage posted new promos for the upcomingepisode, withPeter Dinklageconversing with series starCecily Strongabout many topics. The promos end on an awkward note, though, whenCecily Strongmesses up the actor’sGame of Thronescharacter name, calling him Tyrone instead of Tyrion.
The promos also featurePeter Dinklagetrying a different approach to the show’s classic tagline “Winter is Coming.” As it turns out, the phrase isn’t quite as ominous when replaced by “summer” or “autumn.” The promos also featurePeter Dinklagediscussing how beautiful musical guestGwen Stefaniis, much to the chagrin ofCecily Strong. And the duo mistake a large window for a movie screen.
It remains to be seen if any ofPeter Dinklage’sGame of Thronesco-stars will be joining him in New York this weekend, but the show is known for its surprise appearances, so anything is possible. The April 2SNLepisode comes just three weeks before theGame of Thrones Season 6premiere on Sunday, April 24 at 9 PM ET on HBO. Given how much secrecy is swirling around this season, don’t expect the actor to divulge any spoilers, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
We last saw Tyrion at the end ofSeason 5, shortly after Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) fled the city of Meereen after another assassination attempt by the Sons of the Harpy. In the season finale, it was agreed that Tyrion stay in Meereen and rule the city, with help of Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) and Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel). At the same time, Jorah Mormont (Iain Glen) and Daario Naharis (Michiel Huisman) take off on a journey to find Daenerys, but we saw in thelatest trailerthat they only found the ring Dany left behind, before she was captured and enslaved by a group of Dothraki soldiers.
It seems likely thatSaturday Night Livewill put on some sort ofGame of Thronesparody, but we’ll have to wait until the weekend to find out what the show has in store for the fans.
