The international trailer forSolois a remix of the Super Bowl TV commercial the first teaser that were released in early February. Though no additional footage is shown, the new edit is pretty cool and seems to focus more on young Han Solo talking about wanting to be thebest pilot in the galaxy. It’s impressive that Lucasfilm has been able to keep such a tight lid on theSolomovie, only allowing little bits of promotional material to come out over the last few months.
As with the previous trailers shown, the best shot is still the Imperial Star Destroyer chasing after the Millennium Falcon along with new TIE Fighters that have extra blasting capabilities, which many speculate is from the mythical Kessel Run. Regardless if it is or not, the imagery is striking and looks like it may be one of the bestStar Warsspace battles in franchise history. The Star Destroyer looks dark and ominous, which is a stark contrast to the nervous lighthearted energy from within the Millennium Falcon.
TheSolomovie’s place in theofficial Star Wars timelinehas just been revealed thanks to book publisher Del Ray, who are responsible for a lot ofStar Warsrelated books. The young Han Solo will presumably end 5 years before the events inRogue One. The story is rumored tocover Han’s life from the age of 18 to 24, so we’ll be right in the middle of when the Empire was at its strongest and before the Rebels became a real threat. Many fans falsely assumed thatSolowould bump right intoA New HopelikeRogue Onedid, but that isn’t the case, as it leaves Disney and Lucasfilm with some room to tell more stories in that 5-year space of time.
In otherSolo: A Star Wars Storynews,The Last Jedidirector Rian Johnson revealed that he hasseen the movieand he can’t wait forStar Warsfans to see it. Johnson noted the fun tone and complimented the cast, calling them all charismatic. He obviously didn’t go into specifics, but his take on the young Han Solo movies seems to fit in with the information that we’ve heard from Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, as well as screenwriters Lawrence and Jon Kasdan.
Solo: A Star Wars Storyhits theaters on May 25th, which puts it right in the middle of an epic box office battle with Marvel’sInfinity Warand Sony’sDeadpool 2. However, each of the movies is spaced out far enough to pretty much guarantee that they’ll all hit the number one spot for their debut weekends. While we wait, you can check out the new Japanese poster forSolobelow, featuring the Millennium Falcon and Han and Chewie.
