Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versewon’t be following up on that crazy cliffhanger anytime soon, if the latest rumor is to be believed. Ever since the upcomingAcross the Spider-Versesequel was delayed from its 2024 release date, fans have wondered what is happening with the highly-anticipated project. It currently has no set release date, and Sony never even officially acknowledged that major change. Rumors have since circulated about its production woes, and the latest report explains why development onBeyond the Spider-Versehas been at a standstill.
According toBrandon Davis(viaWorld of Reel),Sony scrapped what they completed forBeyond the Spider-Verseshortly after the release ofAcross the Spider-Verse. Moreover, the script was thrown away and set to be rewritten, and it’s not clear if that process is complete yet. The craziest part is that the studio reportedly still doesn’t have an ending in place for the trilogy, and that has not changed yet. Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt until proven otherwise, but the writing has been on the wall for the past year. Originally slated to release on Aug 10, 2025,Beyond the Spider-Verseremains away from the Sony release schedule.

It waspreviously reportedthat the film had gone undera creative overhaul and would not be hitting theaters until 2027. Although the filmmakers behindBeyond the Spider-Versedisputed the report, it would not be the first time Hollywood has tried to shy away from its development problems. It is also disappointing to hear that the animators for theSpider-Versesequel may have had their work undone amid the script changes and uncertainty behind the scenes.Spider-Manfans will have plenty to digest soon on the movie side of things withthe Tom Holland-led MCU sequeland Sony’sKraven the Hunter, butSpider-Verseremains a beloved franchise with a lot on its shoulders.
‘Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Production Gets Conflicting Reports
The majority of the reports circulatingSpider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versehave been disappointing to say the least, but it seems not everything is bleak. In August,Spider-Verseactor Karan Soni, who plays Pavitr Prabhakar, revealed that the cast was supposed to be recording their voice linesat this point of the year. It’s unclear if this remains true, but the promising update was a welcome one for fans of the beloved franchise. His words:
“We’re going to start recording for that one in a few months, which I’m so excited about. That movie is deep in production. It’s animation, so it’s different and takes a long time. We’ll see when it’s ready and when it ends up coming out, but I’m really excited. That was one of the biggest joys, to get to play that character. So I’m excited to get another chance and to do it again.”

“It’s been a dream since I was a child.”
Every official indication from the film’s producers and cast is thatBeyond the Spider-Verseis well on its way. However, it’s hard to shake off the stink from the various reports that all point out the same production issues behind the scenes. One of the most worrying parts ishow the animators have reportedly been treated as a result of the constant story changes during development.Across the Spider-Versefamously kept changing scenes and tweaking others while it was still in theaters, eventually releasingan alternate version of the film for its digital/physical release.
