Spider-Man: Far from Homeis on track to dominate the holiday box office upon its release next month. The first installment ended up with over $880 million globally after its theatrical run and the sequel could end up beating that grand total after the release ofAvengers: Endgamein April. Aside from mourning the loss of Tony Stark, things are looking a bit light hearted in comparison to the last MCU installment.
Initial tracking hasAvengers: Endgamemaking anywhere from $150 million to $160 million for its six-day holiday grand total. The studio is placing it at a conservative $154 million, while other are estimating as high as $180 million when all is said and done. In comparison,Spider-Man: Far From Homeopened in 2017 with a three-day total of $117 million. The July 2nd release date ensures it will dominate, even with the July 4th slowdown.
This should come as no surprise since the MCU has only been getting bigger over the last handful of years.Spider-Man: Far From Homecould end up doing even better in its opening weekend as Sony ramps up the promotional tour in the next few weeks. Plus, word of mouth will be key in getting some fans into theaters who were initially on the fence. If all goes well,Far From Homecould end upcrossing the $1 billion mark like Captain Marveldid earlier this year. With that being said, there will be some summer competition later on down the line.
