We now know when the upcomingStar Wars Live-Action TV Showtakes place in the timeline. Fans of the franchise have been waiting a very long time for Disney and Lucasfilm to pull the trigger on a live-action TV series and they’re finally making it happen. The series will be part of Disney’s upcoming streaming service, which launches next year. Jon Favreau has been tapped as the chief creative force behind thisStar Warsseries and, while much of what we’re going to see is still a mystery, we now know this isn’t going to be another prequel-era story.
Jon Favreau, who directed the firstIron Manand the live-action version ofThe Jungle Bookfor Disney, was present at the premiere forSolo: A Star Wars Story. During the premiere, he took a little time to speak with Dan Casey of Nerdist and revealed that the show is going to take place seven years afterReturn of the Jedi. This is probably great news forStar Warsfans. We’ve been waiting a while to see thenew on-screen stories in a galaxy far, far awaythatdon’t take place during the prequel era. This show is finally going to do that for us. There is a whole lot to explore in the years leading up to the events ofStar Wars: The Force Awakens, as evidenced by theAftermathtrilogy of novels by Chuck Wendig. However, this is going to follow new characters, as opposed to those we’re already familiar with. That makes a good deal of sense and also presents us with some very interesting opportunities.
Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but this show will surely be exploring the rise of The First Order and the formation of The Resistance in some way or another. Beyond that, all we can do is speculate. Jon Favreau does have a good track record for these sorts of things though, as he launched the DCEU withIron Manand gave us quite possibly the best live-action Disney remake so far withThe Jungle Book. Hearing that he is going to incorporate similar, groundbreaking technology for this series is also welcome news.
