Spike has ordered a production pilot from Dimension Television based on the classicStephen Kingnovella,The Mist. The Spike original scripted series tells a harrowing story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and creates immense havoc. This will be the first production pilot for a Spike scripteddramatic seriessince the network’s shift towards general entertainment.

Christian Torpe serves as the Executive Producer for Spike’sThe Mist. Torpe created the successful show Rita in Denmark, now finishing its fourth season, and has developed programming for both Showtime and AMC. Here’s what Sharon Levy, Executive Vice President, Original Series, Spike, had to say in her statement.

Megan Spanjian, VP of Scripted TV, was instrumental in finding and bringing Torpe to the table and will oversee the project for Dimension TV along withMatthew Signer, EVP of Production and Creative Affairs, and [no_person|Keith Levine}, SVP of Production and Development. Sharon Levy, Ted Gold, Senior Vice President, Scripted Original Series, andLauren Ruggiero, Senior Director, Scripted Programming will oversee the project. Spike TV debuted its first scripted event series in eight years, Tut, last July to strong ratings and has recently ordered to series,Red Marsbased onKim Stanley Robinson’s award-winning “Mars Trilogy.” Dimension TV debuted its first scripted seriesScream, which was an adaptation of the hit horror film franchise, with MTV. With a successful first season,Screamwas picked up forSeason 2and is in production.
