According toTVLine, Netflix’sStranger Things Season 2has cast Will Chase (Nashville) in a “pivotal recurring role.” Details are slowly starting to trickle in aboutStranger Things Season 2and excitement is brewing. Earlier this week the young cast hinted that the latest season will be taking an exciting, dark turn whencompared to the first seasonand that we will see a lot more character development. In addition, we know thatStranger Things Season 2will introduce new some new arrivals to Hawkins, Indiana, one of which is a new father from California.
Will Chase was recently cast as Neil Mayfield, a dad who arrives from way out West. While we don’t know the specifics of the Mayfield character, we can speculate that he is more than likely the father of the two new kids in town, Max and Billy, who are portrayed by Sadie Sink (American Odyssey) and Dacre Montgomery (Power Rangers). This will be an interesting twist considering that the first season was more or less concentrated on the mothers of the characters, specifically single mother of Will, Joyce Beyers played by Winona Ryder.
In addition to Chase joining the cast, Paul Reiser (Mad About You) has also signed on to play Dr. Ownens, an employee of the Department of Energy who has the task of trying to cover up the events of the last season. Sean Astin (Goonies) will play Bob Newby, a former high school classmate of Beyers' and Sheriff Hopper who also manages the Radio Shack in Hawkins. Astin’s presence, much like Ryder’s, definitely helps the 1980s aesthetic. Finally, Linnea Berthelsen (The Desert) will star as a young woman who is traumatized from something that happened in her youth that may or may not be connected to the Department of Energy.
It is too early to tell exactly what the Mayfield character will bring toStranger Things Season 2. So far we know that he is from California and he has two children with two different mothers, Max being the girl who is more of a tomboy with a complicated past and Billy who is a confident boy and Max’s older, edgy stepbrother. Max may have a temper problem if the title of episode one, which is “MadMax”, is any indicator. While the aforementioned information is not a whole lot to go on, fans have already started the rumor mill that Mayfield may also be connected to the Department of Energy, coming toHawkinsto oversee new experiments. Again, this is pure speculation as nothing official has come from theStranger Things campoutside of the new character descriptions.
