The nextArrowVersecrossover event has been revealed. The CW has announced thatSupermanandBatwomanwill meet up for something that will be smaller in scale when compared to the more recentElseworldsandCrisis on Infinite Earthsevents. But, fans will probably have to wait a little longer to see this one come together, as it isn’t expected to hit the airwaves until 2021.
CW chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz made the reveal on Thursday during a conference call with reporters. The call was to discuss the network’s fall lineup, which has been hampered a bit by thewidespread production shutdownwhich started in mid-March. During the call, he touched on what to expect from the next crossover. Here is what Pedowitz had to say about it.
“We’re still working on it. It will be a smaller event than usual, we’re only planning a two-hour event. We are talking about doingSupermanand Batwoman together. There’s a lot of characters coming from our other shows.”
Tyler Hoechlin has been playing Supermanin the ArrowVerse for a couple of years, mostly as a guest star onSupergirl. However, The CW recently handed out a series order toSuperman & Lois, which will co-star Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. This will give the Man of Steel a more permanent home on the small screen.Batwoman, meanwhile, kicked off its first season last year, with the network handing out a season 2 renewal. Ruby Rose stars as the DC Comics hero. Speaking further, Mark Pedowitz explained that theSuperman and Batwomancrossover will probably air in early 2021, as opposed to airing in December, as has been traditionally the case with the previous events.
“It will not happen in December, but it will happen sometime hopefully first or second quarter 2021.”
The first ArrowVerse crossover aired in 2014.Flash vs. Arrowsaw Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen going up against Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen.Superman and Batwomanwill be the smallest-scale crossover since Flash and Arrow went at it. It is not clear at this time if it will be something akin toBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with the two heroes at odds with one another, or if they will be teaming up to take down a common enemy. Either way, it will represent a large scaling back compared to last year’sCrisis on Infinite Earths, which was truly massive.
The status ofThe Flash,Supergirl,Legends of Tomorrow,Black Lightning,Superman & LoisandBatwomanis somewhat in doubt right now. All of the shows will return, but it isn’t clear right now as to when production will be able to resume. Typically, the shows would be part of the network’s fall lineup, with a return date around September. It will likely be pushed back this year. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as any further details are made available. This news was previously reported byDeadline.
