As James Gunn aims to reset each DC character as he moves forward with the new DCU (DC Universe), castingSuperman: Legacy, the first film in what will be a 10-year plan for the DCU, has just been solidified.
It was announced this week that David Corenswet would don the red cape as Superman as well as his alter ego Clark Kent, while Rachel Brosnahan will portray the role of his counterpart and renowned Daily Planet journalist, Lois Lane. The film is set for theatrical release in July 2025, and thecasting for the two main protagonistscouldn’t be more perfect, particularly in the case of Brosnahan.

Brosnahan’s most notable role as Midge Maisel in Prime Video’sThe Marvelous Mrs. Maiselproves she is the perfect person to play Lois Lane. During her five-season run on the show, she embodied Midge’s character so well that the two of them seemed one and the same.
It’s hard to imagine anyone else playing the role of Midge. As such, Lois Lane is yet another role that could become synonymous with Brosnahan, given her acting talents audiences have become familiar with over the past several years. Much like Lois, Midge is career driven, possesses the ability to hold her own in a room full of men, is beyond smart and quick-witted, and despite any hurdles she’s encountered in life, she’s no damsel in distress.

Career Driven
First and foremost, when it comes to their careers, Midge and Lois are equally ambitious women and strive to achieve their goals in the same manner. They’re hard-working in their own right and work on building themselves up rather than tearing others down to get where they want to be. Both possess a keen understanding of their talents and don’t back down from highlighting them even when they might outshine a man.
The confidence Midge and Lois have in their abilities isn’t always an easy trait to embody, given theirenvironments are overwhelmingly male-dominated. Midge’s desire to be a stand-up comedian during a time in which the predominant profession of women was nothing short of housewife speaks volumes about her determination.

Lois and Midge are aligned in that way. If Midge wanted to be a journalist rather than a comedian, it’s safe to assume her career path would look identical to that of Lois Lane, although more than likely minus the otherworldly superhero at her side.

Holds Her Own
Midge is no stranger to being the lone woman in a room full of men, and throughout her run on the series, she managed to hold her own without compromising herself in the process. Despite the era of her time, Midge speaks her mind no matter who might be in the room, even when it’s considered uncouth to do so. The same can be said for Lois.
While Brosnahan’s iteration of Lois will take place in relatively modern times, the character’s initial creation occurred in the same decade Midge was born, not too long after women won the right to vote. As such, her identity as a smart, driven woman in a room full of men is indicative of the character, just as it is with Midge.

Going against the proverbial grain and holding their own despite societal norms is all part of who Lois and Midge are at their core. Thanks to the role of Midge, Brosnahan isseasoned at playing such a character, which makes her casting as Lois all the more exciting.

Quick-Witted Performance
If Midge is known for one thing, it’s her fast-talking quick wit. She moves with a rapid-fire pace in a busy world, and the same could be said for Lois. In an alternate universe, the two would be long-lost sisters or cousins who steal the show at every family gathering with their comedic smarts and undeniable wits.
The quickness with which Midge exists on screen is a feat that, in large part, could only have been achieved thanks to Brosnahan’s acting chops. Hercomedic timing is impeccable, and such abilities are the same ones necessary to portray Lois Lane.
No Damsel in Distress
Despite Midge’s stage name identifying herself as a married woman, she’s hardly a simple housewife. Similarly, Lois Lane is often described in relation to her male counterpart. However, both are far from being any sort ofdamsel in distress. Neither rely on men to rescue them from the circumstances that emerge in their lives. Rather, they bet on themselves and their own accolades as they push forward and take charge of their own path.
While they don’t renounce men, Midge remarried a handful of times after divorcing Joel, and Lois is clearly a partner to Clark Kent, they don’t define themselves in relation to the men in their lives. They both stand on their own and do so proudly.
Lois Lane is a role Brosnahan has expressed great admiration for in the past and has discussedjumping at the opportunity to play herif ever allowed the chance. Given her acting record, audiences can expect one of the best depictions of Lois Lane in recent years. If Brosnahan can portray a character like Midge with such ease, then she’ll no doubt embody the role of Lois without much effort.
