Skydance Productions has found their leading lady forTerminator 6, withMackenzie Davisentering negotiations to star alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, who returns as the T-800 Terminator. While no specific details were given for Mackenzie Davis, the actress is said to be one of the “new faces” of the reboot, in the same vein as Linda Hamilton’s Sarah Connor character from 1984’sThe Terminatorand 1991’sTerminator 2: Judgment Day. The actress was said to be the studio’s top choice for quite some time now, but the casting needed to be signed off on by producer James Cameron, who is currently filming hisAvatarsequels.

Linda Hamilton will be back as Sarah Connor, with the actress describing her character as a “seasoned warrior” when her casting was confirmed in September. While it was revealed that Sarah Connor died inTerminator 3: Rise of the Machines, with Emilia Clarke later playing the character in the disappointing flopTerminator Genisys, this movie will be a direct sequel toTerminator 2, ignoring the events of 2003’sTerminator 3: Rise of the Machines, 2009’sTerminator Salvationand 2015’sTerminator: Genisys. With all that being said, there is still no further details on how Mackenzie Davis' character may fit into this story.

This new report also reveals that Billy Ray (The Hunger Games) has signed on to give the screenplay a polish, based on the original draft by director Tim Miller, producer James Cameron and producer/financier David Ellison, whose Skydance Productions is financing the project. Skydance has set aJuly 26, 2019 release date, which is already shaping up to be a blockbuster weekend since this movie will be going up against Universal’sFast & Furiousspin-off, starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.

We reported last month thatproduction has been delayedfrom a March start to sometime in either May or June, with the delay giving the filmmakers more time to round out the cast. That report also revealed that the protagonist is named Dani Ramos, who is described as being more street smart than book smart, who has very close ties to her family and is said to be able to find positivity in any situation. However, it seems unlikely that Mackenzie Davis is playing this character, since the casting call released last month reveals Dani is in her early 20s, hailing from Mexico City, and since Davis is a 30-year-old from Vancouver, it seems unlikely that Davis is playing Ramos.

There has also been talk that Mexico City will be one of the filming locations forTerminator 6, with production also reportedly taking place in Budapest, Spain, and the U.K. Robert Patrick has also expressed interest in reprising hisT-1000character inTerminator 6, but there has been no indication that he is actually coming aboard yet. Still, with a few months left until filming begins, the cast will continue to fill out, and it remains to be seen if more familiar faces from theTerminatorfranchise will be added or not. Mackenzie Davis is best known for playing Cameron Howe in AMC’sHalt and Catch Fireand she recently played Mariette on the big screen inBlade Runner 2049. She will next be seen as the title character in Focus Features’Tully, hitting theaters April 20.Varietybroke the news on thisTerminator 6casting earlier today.
