Season 4 ofThe Boyshas a lot in store for the superhero Starlight, according toErin Moriarty. In Season 1, Starlight was the naive new member of the Seven, who was taken advantage of and slowly molded into a corporate tool for Vought. Over the next two seasons, Starlight found her voice and began separating herself from their corporate control, andSeason 4 takes that storyline even further, according to the actress.
Speaking toComicBook.com(alongside her co-star Karen Fukuhara), Moriarty discussed how Starlight continues finding her own voice in Season 4. The new season sees the heroine finally secede from Vought and join The Boys' plight against superheroes, and there are plenty of surprises in store for the character.“That’s kind of what’s gonna make this season hopefully meaningful for her. In other words, like the element of surprise, I keep saying this, it’s not arbitrary. It’s earned, right?“she said. According to Moriarty, Starlight will struggle to reconcile her optimistic morality with The Boys' methods of tracking and killing supes. She continued:

“She’s going through this existential identity crisis and it’s like ‘Yeah, the woman has earned this moment in her life.’ But the audience is going to think that, and none of us think that when we’re going through it. So that in itself was very interesting for me to read and hopefully will be… you know, make people feel less alone if they’re going through it.”
Starlight Faces Her Past in The Boys Season 4
Past seasons have shown the darker side of Starlight’s past, including her complicated relationship with her mother. But Season 4 is flipping the table to explore her own shortcomings before joining the Seven. Replacing Starlight in the Seven is Firecracker (Valorie Curry) who has past ties to Starlight. Erin Moriarty touched upon this during the interview, saying Season 4"reveals a part of my past where I was a bully.”
The Boys Showrunner Suggests Show Will Go Far Beyond Original Five Season Plan
Eric Kripke now laughs about his initial plan to end The Boys after season 5.
Across the first three seasons, Starlight has always been the show’s moral compass, as Hughie (Jack Quaid) swings back and forth between accepting Billy Butcher’s (Karl Urban) brutal methods of getting the job down. But no one is safe fromThe Boys’deep exploration of complex morality, and that includes Starlight. Moriarty said she initially struggled to conceive of Starlight acting that way, but now she can’t wait for audiences to see it on screen. She continued:

“And that was like… that for myself as Erin was something that I had to transcend. Like, ‘Oh, I was a bully in my past and I did that. And there’s a reason why I did that because my mom was doing this and this and that.’ I love that moment because that, to me, is the most unambiguous, malicious moment we’ve seen her exemplify. Everything else has been with a good intention. I love that they add those little bits in.”
The BoysSeason 4 continues the titular team’s crusade against the narcissistic, violent superheroes that roam the world, withHomelander (Anthony Starr) firmly in the centerof their targets. Season 4 could shift the balance of power, as the newest trailer teases a virus capable of killing superheroes.

Season 4 ofThe Boysbegins on June 13 on Prime Video.
