“This fairy tale begins in a library in Queens.” Apple TV+ has today revealed the first trailer for the upcoming horror series,The Changeling, an eight-part drama starring and executive produced byGet Outstar and Academy Award-nomineeLaKeith Stanfield. Coming courtesy ofApple TV,The Changelingpromises to be a horror story, a parenthood fable, and a dangerous odyssey all wrapped into one as a man must go in search of his wife after she disappears with their first child. “Based on the acclaimed bestselling book of the same name by Victor LaValle, “The Changeling” is a fairytale for grown-ups,” the official logline for the Apple TV series reads. “A horror story, a parenthood fable and a perilous odyssey through a New York City you didn’t know existed.”

While the first footage fromThe Changelingkeeps plenty of things a mystery, it does reveal that the main drive of the story will be LaKeith Stanfield as used book dealer Apollo Kagwa, who goes in search of his wife after she does something horrific in the aftermath of the birth of their first child. Brimming with doom, gloom, and supernatural horror,The Changelingis written and adapted by showrunner and executive producer Kelly Marcel (Cruella, Venom, Venom: Let There Be Carnage), with the pilot episode directed by Melina Matsoukas (Queen & Slim, Insecure).
Starring and executive produced by Academy Award nominee LaKeith Stanfield (Atlanta, Judas and the Black Messiah, Sorry to Bother You, The Book of Clarence), the series also stars Clark Backo (Letterkenny, The Handmaid’s Tale), Adina Porter (American Horror Story, True Blood), Samuel T. Herring (Tears of God), Alexis Louder (Violent Night, Watchmen), Jared Abrahamson (American Animals), and special guest star Malcolm Barrett (Timeless, The Boys).

Brimming with haunting imagery, dark magic, deep mystery, and witches,The Changelingcertainly looks intriguing, and will no doubt boast another stellar performance from Stanfield, who hasproven his talent time and againin the likes ofUncut Gems, Knives Out, The Harder They Fall, and more.
Interestingly, a ‘changeling’ hails from European folklore and refers to a human-like creature (usually a fairy) that is left in place of a human child that has been kidnapped by the other fairies. So, take from that what you will and perhaps pour over the trailer forThe Changelingfor clues that might pertain to the origin of the term.
The Changelingis produced by Apple Studios and Annapurna. Megan Ellison, Patrick Chu and Ali Krug are executive producers on behalf of Annapurna. Showrunner Marcel, the book’s author LaValle, David Knoller and director Jonathan van Tulleken executive produce alongside star Stanfield. Director Matsoukas serves as executive producer through her De La Revolución Films. Sue Naegle and David Wolkis also serve as executive producer, with Khaliah Neal as co-executive producer.
The Changelingwill make its global debut with the first three episodes on Friday, July 31, 2025 onApple TV+, followed by one new episode every Friday through October 13.
