The Crow Reboot Gets a New Title and Home, Will It Finally Happen?

After several years in development at Relativity Media,The Crowreboot has a brand new home. ProducerSamuel Hadida’s Davis Films has teamed up with the Highland Film Group and Electric Shadow to produce, finance and distributeThe Crow remake. Principal photography is expected to begin sometime next year, but it isn’t known if the key figures who were attached to the project when it was at Relativity are still going to be involved.

The Hollywood Reporterbroke the news today, revealing thatEdward R. Pressman, who produced the original 1994 adaptation ofThe CrowwithSamuel Hadida, will produce this project, which is now reportedly titledCrow Reborn. Relativity Media CEORyan Kavanaghis still on board as an executive producer, after developing the film for years with the producers. The film was very close tostarting productionat Relativity, when the studio filed for bankruptcy.

We reported last year thatThe Crowremake was still set to start production last fall, even after it had filed for bankruptcy, but it never moved forward. Then in March, more trouble ensued when the studio reportedly fired directorCorin Hardy, which sparked a lawsuit fromEdward R. Pressman, who wanted to deny Relativity the right to produce this remake. It seems thatEdward R. Pressmanultimately got his wish, even thoughRyan Kavanaghremains aboard as executive producer.

Back in August, we reported thatJason Momoawas in talks to star as the iconic Eric Draven, and we reported in September thatCorin Hardywas back on board as the director, with Relativity eyeing a January 2017 shoot. However, Relativity Media put itself up for sale last month, andThe Crowwas seen as one of the company’s most valuable assets. Here’s whatEdward R. Pressmanhad to say in a statement.

“I am thrilled to collaborate with this talented team and return the Crow franchise to its roots for a new generation of audiences to enjoy.”

Jessica Brown Findlayhad previously been attached to play Shelly,Eric Draven’s fiance, in the reboot, but it remains unclear if she is still attached or not. The original film follows musician Eric Draven and his fiancée, who are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang on the night before their wedding. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger. Tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes and mercilessly murdering them, Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar to complete his macabre mission. Hopefully we’ll get more news onThe Crowreboot now that it has found a new home.
