Following the cancellation ofLegends of TomorrowandBatwoman,The CWhas not as much swung the ax but instead wielded a sweeping scythe with the announcement of the cancelation of several high-profile shows, including the new DC seriesNaomiafter just one season. Coming on the heels of the shock announcement surrounding theArrowverseseries, fans ofIn the Dark, Dynasty, 4400, Roswell, New MexicoandCharmedhave been dealt a similar blow as all have five series have not been given renewals. While the rumors of a sell-off of the network continue, with claims that The CW has never made a profit since its creation in 2006, this latest wave of cancellation has taken out almost a third of the remaining shows, leaving onlyThe Flash, Superman & Lois, Riverdale, Nancy Drew, Walker, All American, and Kung Fuon the slate.

After the cancellation of the other DC shows, it looked like the remainingArrowverseshows would be safe.Naomionly arrived on the network this year with a lot of promise as a stand-alone show, with no real connections made to the rest of theArrowverseseries. However, today the superhero series became the first additional property to be given the chop. Still, it was certainly not alone as the Grim Reaper of TV Shows glided through The CW’s list of scripted content without mercy.

In the Dark

Original seriesIn the Darkis possibly the least surprising of the cancelations. A newer addition to The CW’s line-up, the series about a blind detective premiered on the network back in 2019 and its fourth, and seemingly last, season is set to make its debut next month. Of the other series to also be caught in the cull isDynasty, based on the classic 80s soap, which was looking to be renewed for a sixth season, whileCharmedandRoswell, New Mexicoare gone after four seasons, and4400has been dropped following just one season.

Fans Need to Enjoy Their Favorite The CW Series While They Can

While the news of this purge of popular shows will come as a blow for fans, many of these shows are still to air their final episodes. While4400andNaomihave both ended on the network,DynastyandCharmedare currently in the middle of their now-final seasons, with several episodes still to be shown. In addition to that,Roswell, New MexicoandIn the Darkstill have a full season to come. Fans should ensure they make the most of these episodes, as even though there is a possibility that some of these shows could make a movie on one streaming platform or another, there are no guarantees of that happening.

There are still several current shows running at The CW, with some renewed already for further seasons, and of course, they also have new shows such as Gotham Knights,The Winchestersand theWalkerprequel both in development. WhileSupergirl’s future has not been announced,The Flashis expected to end following its ninth season, which would only leaveSuperman & Loisfrom the manyArrowverseshows that were once one of the network’s biggest pulls. With so few scripted shows remaining, it is almost as though the future of The CW itself has already been decided.
