Star Warslive-action seriesThe Mandalorianofficially announces the cast, confirming that Pedro Pascal will star as a lone Mandalorian gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy. Pascal is joined by Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow, Carl Weathers, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, and Nick Nolte. The show has been filming for the last month in Southern California and executive producer Jon Favreau is happy to finally announce the cast. He had this to say.

Currently in production,The Mandalorianiswritten and executive produced by Jon Favreau, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars,Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode and serving as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow, Rick Famuyiwa,Bryce Dallas Howard, and Taika Waititi. Leaked footage from the set saw Waititi, Filoni, and Favreau all having a good time while working on the show.
As with most things that Lucasfilm does, details surroundingThe Mandalorianhave been scarce. We’ve seen a few images and videos from the set, but nothing substantial, except for the first reveal of theMandalorian warrior armor, which will reportedly change pretty drastically after the first few episodes. However, it had been rumored for weeks that Pedro Pascal was going to jump on board to play the main character in theStar Warslive-action series for Disney’s streaming platform, which means that not everything is so airtight around there. An official release date has yet to be announced, but Lucasfilm says late 2019, which sounds promising.
Werner Herzoghad also been rumored to join the cast ofThe Mandalorian, which has also now proven to be true and that’s pretty awesome. It’s a great all-star cast that should help make the show as awesome as it sounds. Leaked storyline details say that the show will revolve around Pedro Pascal’s Deadly Gunfighter finding a baby and taking care of it, instead of killing it. Set photos have shown the character with something on his back, which may actually be said baby. However, that leaked information has yet to be confirmed by Lucasfilm or Jon Favreau at this time. That being said, with casting happening, it’s more than likely that some of that information is true.
Excitement forThe Mandalorianhas been there since the beginning, but this cast is going to make a lot of fans happy. It’s going to be really interesting to see how thelive-action Star Wars showconnects toReturn of the JediandThe Force Awakens. If the baby element ends up being true, that would put the age of the young character at the same ages as Rey, Finn, and Poe, which could throw some things off into an intriguing direction.
