Christopher Nolanis not horsing around when it comes to the production ofhis next movie,The Odyssey.A couple of new photos have emerged from the set of the historical epic, offering a first look at the movie’s towering Trojan Horse. The images, posted on X/Twitter by Cinema Tweets (and shared below), reveal a small glimpse of the movie’s ambitious production design – not that anyone would expect anything less from Nolan.
The first image shows several cast members dressed head-to-toe in costume as Greek soldiers, complete with protective armor plates, shields, and helmets similar to the attire Matt Damon was seen wearing inthe first official photo of Odysseusreleased by Universal Pictures earlier this month. The second image reveals a statue of a sturdy steed, a symbol rooted in Greek mythology as the Trojan Horse used to infiltrate the city of Troy and win the war.

The 12 Greatest Special Effects in Christopher Nolan’s Movies
For two decades, Christopher Nolan has raised the bar with what a director can accomplish with massive stunts and special effects.
The Odysseyis an adaptation of the eponymous Greek poem written by the highly revered wordsmith Homer, focusing on the homecoming journey of Odysseus following the 10-year Trojan War. While this version of the story centers on the grueling aftermath, the appearance of the Trojan Horse on set has sparked speculation about whether the movie could feature a prologue or flashback sequences to show snippets of the legendary conflict.

It’s not surprising that Nolan has taken the opportunity to have the Trojan Horse constructed for his period piece, as the director is known for making large-scale movies that prioritize practical effects over CGI. In recent years, he has wowed audiences by utilizing real planes to create the dogfighting scenes inDunkirk, crashed a Boeing 747 into a building inTenet, and created a fake nuclear explosion forOppenheimer.
The Odysseyis just the latest to join this list, and it reportedly hasa budget of $250 million, making it Nolan’s most expensive movie to date. This kind of money gives the director plenty of scope to bring Homer’s literary masterpiece to the big screen. He will likely need it too, as Odysseus famously encountered several perilous situations and mythical creatures on his trek home to Ithaca. Exactly how this all plays out will only become clear whenThe Odysseyarrives in cinemas on July 27, 2025, but we can probably expect one or two more set photos before then.
