The world of Dunder Mifflin has more offices than just the Scranton, PA branch formerly led by Michael Scott. Greg Daniels (who developed the original U.S. version ofThe Office) andMichael Koman (ofNathan For You)set up a writers' room in January 2024 to work on the next iteration of the series, which will take place at a different office location in the company. The first round of casting has been confirmed —Domhnall GleesonandSabrina Impacciatoreare confirmed to star in the show.

Gleeson, on the other hand, is an Irish actor who has become recognizable for his performance as Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter series before gaining more popularity acting opposite Oscar Isaac and Alicia Vikander in Alex Garland’s first directorial feature,Ex Machina. Since then, he has played General Armitage Hux in theStar Warssequels and led a variety of miniseries on television —Frank of Ireland, The Patient, White House Plumbers, andAlice & Jack.
Greg Daniels Doesn’t Like to Think of It as an Office ‘Reboot’
While we may call it a reboot, Greg Daniels ofThe Officeis understandably not a fan of the word. In November of 2023, he toldThe Wrap, “I don’t like to think of anything as a reboot, you know what I mean? Because I feel like we ended that story beautifully. The characters had closure,” Daniels said, adding:
I would never want to redo that same show with a different cast, because I think we got the luckiest cast, the best cast ever, in TV, to do that show. So the notion of a reboot is not of interest.

However, he’s obviously doing something withThe Office. He compares it toThe Mandalorian, as a kind of extension to an existing universe. he told The Wrap, “The notion of maybe something like the wayThe Mandalorianis a new show in theStar Warsuniverse, you know what I mean? Something like the notion of this documentary crew doing a documentary about a different subject… That, I think, could be intriguing and creative. ButI don’t even know what you would call that… it doesn’t feel like ‘reboot’ would be the appropriate term for that.” Perhaps spin-off is the right word?
The Office: Best Cold Opens in the Series, Ranked
The Office is still one of the most watched series on television. Let’s look at the greatest cold openings of the show, ranked.
When we spoke with Graham Wagnerabout co-creating Prime Video’s popular new series,Fallout, we asked him aboutThe Officereboot and got his thoughts:

“Happy, sad, I don’t know. Yes, I’m happy for the sake of television. I mean, I was there only on the last season. I felt like I arrived in the part for the Vietnam War where they were pushing the helicopters off the planes. So, it’s not really something I had an ownership over at all.But I’m excited. I hope those guys bring half-hour comedies back. That would be great.”
Wagner was a producer and writer on the show, along with other comedies likeSilicon ValleyandPortlandia. It will be interesting to see what happens withThe Office, especially after the divisive final seasons, after Steve Carell left the show.
