As the fate ofThe PenguinSeason 2 hangs in the balance, it seems HBO just made a big decision that could indicate the future of the DC drama. The Batmanspin-off was a resounding success for the network, pulling in nominations left and right the past few months (including aGolden Globe winunder its belt). Despite HBO reportedly working onThe PenguinSeason 2, they will continue to campaign in the Limited Series category.
Per Deadline, HBO is planning on submittingThe Penguinin the Outstanding Limited Series category at the Emmy Awards. As expected, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti will be in the running for Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, in the Limited Series categories. Supporting actors Rhenzy Feliz and Deirdre O’ Connell will also enter the Emmy race for their respective roles as Victor and Francis. Meanwhile, series creator Lauren LeFranc will be submitted for scripting the award-winning DC series. Does this Limited Series awards push mean thatThe PenguinSeason 2is not happening? The answer is a bit complicated.

‘The Penguin’ Star Shares Thoughts on Fandoms and the “Actual Villains” in Power
“Sometimes these fandoms are so hell-bent on making sure no one has any differences other than them.”
LikeBig Little Liesand several other shows before it, it would not be the first time a series was submitted as a Limited Series and got renewed for another season anyway. Most recently, the Apple TV+ dramaPresumed Innocent, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, gotrenewed for Season 2despite intentions by the network to campaign in the Limited Series category. IfThe Penguinis indeed getting a second season, it seems HBO is simply trying to circumvent awards rules and take advantage of the Limited Series category. However, until any confirmation otherwise, it seemsThe Penguinwill remain a one-season endeavor for now. Hopefully, HBO will give fans a conclusive answer soon enough.

HBO Is in Talks for ‘The Penguin’ Season 2, but Colin Farrell Is in No Rush
As of late 2024, HBO has been in talks with Lauren LeFranc, Matt Reeves, and the rest of the producing crew forThe PenguinSeason 2. The creatives have made it clear a follow-up season would only happen if they had a great idea. And while that remains to be seen, series star and Golden Globe winner Colin Farrell is in “no rush” to come back for another season as the ruthless mobster. Sure, he would consider it, especially if it’s a “good idea,” but Farrell does not feel a distinct creative need to reprise his role.
“I don’t want it. I don’tnotwant it, We all left it in the ring in those eight hours. I would hate to, just because of a quote-unquote success, have to go again and for it to be a diluted version of what people seem to feel it is, majoritively. So I’m in no rush. I have no deep desire to do it. … Sure, if they think of something that works in conjunction as a parallel to Matt Reeves’ cinematic universe and it’s a good idea, I’m open it. But it’s not something concerning me.”

IfThe PenguinSeason 2 does not come to fruition, fans can still expect to see Farrell as Oz Cobb inThe Batman Part II, which Reeves is nearly done writing. Unfortunately, it will bequite a few yearsbeforeThe Batmanis back in theaters.
