In five days,Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerwill finally be in theaters for everyone to see. Will it be good? Will it be great? Will it take the Skywalker saga down in a blaze of glory? Or will it be the most divisive film in theStar Warscanon following the much criticizedThe Last Jedi? Who can really tell at this point? We know it will be a true Disney movie, and now the folks at Fun have taken that concept and ran with it, quite literally. They’ve replaced the main characters at the heart of this giant finale with Disney animated icons.
This fan art mashup doesn’t bring us all of our favoriteStar Warscharacters in a Disney-fied splash of colorful excitement. Instead, they have chosen to focus solely on the main team that is at the forefront ofThe Rise of Skywalker. And they have chosen eachDisneycharacter to take their place very carefully. This is what Fun has to say about their ‘fun’ new mashup fan art.

“While we restricted ourselves to characters fromThe Rise of Skywalker, we tried to find the best matches from Disney and Pixar movies. We did our best to choose characters that had similar personalities and backgrounds, although others worked well because of their appearance (like Sulley as Chewbacca), or simply because the idea made us smile.”
First up, Aladdin replacesFinnin this animated take on the blockbuster franchise. They are both similar in that they come from impoverished backgrounds. Aladdin was a street rat who became a prince. Finn, on the other hand, is a deserter Stormtrooper and often referred to as a ‘traitor’ throughout the new trilogy. He has since become an important member of the Resistance. And both of them take their wardrobe very seriously.

Of course Buzz Lightyear steps in forPoe Dameron, the hot shot space pilot with an affinity for scarfs. Both know the power of flight, and have a similar confidence that can’t be matched. Rounding out the main trio of modernStar Warsheroes,Frozen 2star Elsa is taking the place of Rey. Both Disney princesses have been looking for answers to their past. And they are ever-so tenacious. Perhaps Elsa has a few Jedi Mind tricks of her own.
Kylo Ren is portrayed in this mashup art by none other than Stitch ofLilo and Stitchfame. Stitch isn’t exactly an evil presence in the world of Disney animation, but likeBen Solo, he has been quite misguided at times. And the possibility of redemption lurks around every corner and hallway. Plus it’s just kind of cool to see Stitch dressed up in Kylo’s dark side attire holding a red lightsaber.

New characterZorii Blissis played by Mulan in this mashup art, withMonsters, Inc.mainstay Sulley stepping in for Chewbacca. We don’t get to see R2-D2 here, butBig Hero 6favorite Baymax does a pretty good imitation of C-3PO. And we have Wall•E playing BB-8. Princess ‘Kida’ Kidagakash fromAtlantissteps in for Rose Tico, because of course we couldn’t leave poor old Rose out of the equation.
Finally, we have Moana playing new Resistance ally Jannah in this series of Disney mashups. you may check out the art below direct fromFun. Maybe someday we’ll get to see this really take flight in the world of Disney animation. Until then, we can stare at this fun art and imagine what could be.
