After it was reported earlier this month that the long-awaited reboot of Troma Entertainment’s cult classicThe Toxic Avengerwas finally getting the theatrical release it deserves in 2025, we nowhave a firm release date of August 29 in place. Directed by Macon Blair and starring Peter Dinklage, Jacob Tremblay, Kevin Bacon, and Elija Wood, to name a few, the film was feared to languish in limbo forever until Cineverse swooped in and picked it up, rescuing it out of obscurity.

Macon Blair Says ‘The Toxic Avenger’ Is Better With a Crowd
While it was feared by many thatThe Toxic Avengerwould never see the light of day thanks to its risqué content that no distributor wanted to touch, with Cineverse now acquiring the film, fans will finally get to see Toxie in all his unrated glory. It already has a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from the few critics that were fortunate enough to review it back in 2023, with MovieWeb’s own Richard Finksaying in his assessmentthat it"maintains a great balance between horror, comedy, and truly inspiring super-heroics that should be seen with a crowd full of moviegoers looking for a throwback to classic B-movies that one would find at the video store."
Blair echoed those sentiments at the timeThe Toxic Avengerwas picked up by Cineverse a couple of weeks ago, saying in a statement that"It’s so cool that folks will have the chance to see this in theaters, it’s a fun rowdy movie you wanna see with a crowd.“He also added:

“Our goal was always to preserve the heart and spirit of the original Toxie (which was seared into my brain at a very young age) and attempt to make something that Troma fans would dig and at the same time do something with the character that feels fresh.”
Look for the reboot ofThe Toxic Avengerin theaters everyone on Aug 11, 2025, and if you want to relive all the fun of the 1984 original, it’s currently available to stream on a number of platforms, including Tubi, Peacock, Pluto TV, and Prime Video.
