Netflix is moving right along withThe Witcherseason 2. The fantasy show made its debut on the streaming service in December and quickly became a huge hit. Henry Cavill will be returning as Geralt of Rivia for another round of swords and sorcery and he’s going to have some company in the form ofDolittlestar Carmel Laniado, who is joining the cast in season 2. The stars will be getting to work in a hurry, as production is set to begin very soon.
According to a new report, filming is set to kick off this month on theNetflix original, with production set to take place in Scotland and Eastern Europe. Word is Netflix is setting up shop in Arborfield Studios, which is located west of London. The show’s debut season filmed in Hungary, Poland and Spain. The big thing here is that viewers may not have to wait all that long for new episodes ofThe Witcher. With filming kicking off soon, if all goes well, we could see the series return in late 2020 or early 2021.
The report also notes that Carmel Laniado has signed on to play a character named Violet in season 2. Violet is described as “a young girl whose playful and whimsical demeanor is a front for a smarter and more sadistic character.” It’s said Laniado will at least appear in three episodes. It was previously revealed whenNetflix handed out an early renewal to The Witcherthat the sophomore season will consist of eight episodes. Laniado is a relative newcomer to the business, are her only official credits are 2019’sA Christmas Carolminiseries, which was produced for FX, as well asDolittle, which is currently in theaters.
While critics were slightly mixed on the show, as it currently holds a 66 percent on Rotten Tomatoes,viewers seemed to be mostly on board, as it boasts a 92 percent audience rating. Aside from the show’s second season, we also learned recently that Netflix is producing an anime movie titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf. No release timeline has been revealed, but it’s expected that the movie will help fill the void between seasons.
