Yellowjacketsthrew fans for a loop with Episode 6, which introduced three new people into the wilderness. This has so many implications for the plot going forward. The ladies are not alone, but they have also become basically feral. After what they did to Ben (Steven Krueger), it’s not likely that there’s any turning back for them, and it explains why they remain so traumatized and secretive 25 years later in the present day.

The mysterious trio that shows up at the end of Episode 6, however, is revealed to be two university researchers and their guide. This answers some pivotal questions about the plot, some of which have been looming since the beginning.

Yellowjackets

Who Is the Trio in ‘Yellowjackets’?

Edwin (Nelson Franklin) and Hannah aretwo university researchersstudying frog mating patterns, while Kodi (Joel McHale) is their guide. They are set up to spend six months in the wilderness for this project, recording data and capturing video and audio from their cameras. While Edwin is swiftly killed by Lottie (Courtney Eaton) when he sees Ben’s severed head off to the side of the fire, the others are chased down until Hannah is captured. They had a satellite phone back at their camp but accidentally broke it prior to investigating the sounds they heard from the ladies.

Hold On, That ‘Yellowjackets’ Death Came Out of Nowhere

If you thought Natalie’s death in Season 2 of ‘Yellowjackets’ was shocking, this one will shake you to your core.

Kodi’s whereabouts are unknown, and it’s unclear what plans the ladies have for Hannah. However, before Hannah is captured, she records a message using her camera for her daughter, telling her she loves her. Hannah is certain that she will no longer make it out of the wilderness alive and is very likely right.

Back at home in the present day, Callie (Sarah Desjardins) gives Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) the tape that was left at their doorstep, and Shauna gets help from Van (Lauren Ambrose) to find a compatible player to listen to it. It’s Hannah’s excruciating scream as Edwin is killed by Lottie and, Shauna discovers later, also the message Hannah left her daughter. Van comments that the only people who know about this are them and dead. The existence of this trio answers a lot of questions about what’s to come and raises some interesting ones, too.

This Might Be How the Girls in ‘Yellowjackets’ Get Home

Even with the satellite phone broken, the university is sending a team to recover Hannah, Edwin, and Kodi in six months. Thus, this is likely who rescues the ladies. Hannah may tell them this information, and they will realize that even if someone doesn’t arrive sooner, they will almost certainly get home in half a year.

This could change the dynamic with the women now that they need to grapple with the horrible things they have done. There’s finally an end dateto the trauma. They can see the light home. Lottie may believe that this is what the sign meant about Ben being their bridge to home: it was their celebration of cannibalizing his body, after all, that brought this trio to them. It’s also possible that Hannah might have been required to check in with the school periodically, and they decided to come sooner when they didn’t hear from her.

Hannah Could Be Pit Girl in ‘Yellowjackets’

One of themysteriesYellowjacketsstill needs to solveis the identity of pit girl. Until now, the consensus has been that Mari (Alexa Barajas) was pit girl. She matches with the long brown hair and is one of the few women left who isn’t confirmed to still be alive. But now,it seems more likely that Hannah might be pit girl.

It makes sense since the young woman is seen running outside in a small white dress in the middle of winter. Mari would likely be fully clothed and wearing something to keep her warm, even if she was part of the Queen of Hearts ritual card pull to determine who would be the next sacrifice. More likely, Hannah was being kept as a prisoner and escaped. The ladies chased her down, but before they could catch her, she fell into the same pit Ben uncovered. Ironically, that pit was likely dug from the university’s previous team, as Hannah mentions in the episode.

Ranking Which Yellowjacket Will Most Likely Be the “Only One Left”

The Yellowjackets made it out of the Wilderness alive, but they might not survive what Season 3 has in store.

The Sounds Might Not Be Mystical

Throughout the series, the ladies hear strange sounds they believe to be spirits, supernatural beings, or the trees talking to them. Lottie is confused thatit’s the wildernessspeaking to them. But as Hannah and Edwin are recording the frogs they are studying,it seems this piercing sound is part of their mating ritual.

Even though this is only one piece of the puzzle surrounding the odd things that have been happening in the wilderness, could this suggest that it’s all in Lottie’s head? And a misinterpretation by Tai (Jasmin Savoy Brown) due to her already fractured mental state? It was clear from the beginning that Tai had a darkness in her, given that she intentionally injured a fellow player before the flight to take her spot on the team. Between Lottie and Tai, the two people who have had the most out-of-body experiences beyond others, like Travis (Kevin Alves) and Akilah (Nia Sondaya), who have onlydone so with hallucinogenicmushrooms or toxic fumes, there could be more to this angle.

Hilary Swank’s Character Is Likely Hannah’s Daughter

The existence of Hannah’s tape, the message to her daughter, and the fact that this tape made its way to Shauna all but confirms that it’s from Hannah’s daughter. This is likely thecharacter that Hilary Swank is playing, which is an undisclosed role. It would make sense that Hannah’s daughter, in listening to this tape, recognizes that awful things went on in the wilderness and that the ladies are behind it. While 25 years have passed, Shauna unearthed details about the woman by checking local records. Hannah had a teenage pregnancy and gave the child up for adoption, which means it’s possible the daughter didn’t know who her biological mother was until now.

Has she been the person who has been taunting Shauna this whole time? Is shethe person who killed Lottie? The biggest question this poses is who smuggled the tape out of the wilderness and made sure it got into Hannah’s daughter’s hands 25 years later in the first place.

Wait, We Actually Needed That ‘Yellowjackets’ Bonus Episode

‘Yellowjackets’ promised a bonus episode between Season 2 and 3, but it never happened, and it probably should.

Callie Is Starting to Figure Things Out

Upset that she isn’t getting the answers she wants and recognizing that her mother is holding dark secrets from her time in the wilderness, Callie (Sarah Desjardins) is trying her best to dig deeper. She even hides her phone in her mother’s purse before Shauna heads out to meet Van (Lauren Ambrose) and Tai (Tawny Cypress), setting it on record so she can later listen to the conversation. Shauna finds the phone and angrily deletes the recording but doesn’t realize Callie can still access it in her “recently deleted files” folder.

After listening, Callie is seen searching on her laptop for unsolved missing persons cases from Canada in the 1990s. She shares with her father, Jeff (Warren Kole), that she found details about two university researchers and their guide who went missing around the same time her mother was stranded in Canada. As Callie almost certainly demands answers, Shauna might have no choice but to explain things to her daughter.

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 Review: Sacrifice, Savagery, and Screaming Trees Offer Skeptical Intrigue

‘Yellowjackets’ Season 3 offers more of the same, but as the Wilderness gets impatient, repercussions and undying mystery will keep viewers watching.

But if Lottie (Simone Kessell) was onto something in giving Callie the necklace and believing the wilderness “chose” her, it could also awaken a similar darkness in Callie. Her role will likely grow as the season continues. Whichever direction she goes, however, is up in the air.

For now, one of the three new faces is already dead, one captured, and the other on the run somewhere in the wilderness. It’s likely they both will eventually meet the same fate. But with Kodi’s survivalist skills, is it possible he hid, even when rescue arrived, and somehow survived until he found his own way out? He could have lived in hiding under another identity only to resurface now. It would be far-fetched, but with this show, anything’s possible.StreamYellowjacketsonParamount+ with Showtime.
