During Marvel’sComic-Conpanel, the studio debuted a hilarious new video that explained whyChris Hemsworth’s Thor wasn’t part of the epic battle inCaptain America: Civil War. The video, which introduces fans to Thor’s Australian roommate Darryl Jacobson (Daley Pearson) became quite popular with Marvel fans, which can now be found on the bonus features of theCaptain America: Civil WarBlu-ray and DVD release, but fans still want more of Darryl, and it seems they may get it.Thor: RagnarokdirectorTaika Waitititeased in a new interview that Darryl may just end up inThor: Ragnarok.
The video revealed that Thor needed some down time after the epic battle inAvengers: Age of Ultron, so he went to Australia, where he became roommates with Darryl, along with a special cameo fromMark Ruffaloas Bruce Banner. The video has become so popular that an online petition surfaced for Marvel to create aNetflix seriesfeaturing both Thor and Darryl. While that may or may not happen,Taika Waititi, who directed the Thor and Darryl short, revealed in an interview withIGNthat we may not have seen the last of Darryl.
“Thorbriefly rented a room in a flat in Australia after the Ultron debacle. Just to get some downtime - to get away from The Avengers, to get away from America. So he had a little downtime in Australian. And he met this guy Darryl and they shared a flat together. So that’s Darryl. I think you probably could see him again. There may be other little pieces of that thing that everyone saw that may just be a small part of a bigger thing.”
While his statement doesn’t exactly confirm that Darryl will in fact be featured inThor: Ragnarok, hopefully we’ll get confirmation on his future in theMarvel Cinematic Universe. Since the director couldn’t divulge much about what happens inThor: Ragnarok, he was asked what doesn’t happen in the movie. Before directingThor: Ragnarok,Taika Waititiwas best known for directing popular indie comedies likeWhat We Do In The Shadowsand his latest filmThe Hunt For the Wilderpeople, both of which starredJemaine Clement. The filmmaker confirmed that none of his characters from those movies will be featured inThor: Ragnarok.
“A thing that will definitely not happen is… oh man, if I say anything, it might hint at something else. I have to really watch my words nowadays. This is a topic I should really avoid. OK, one thing you can get from me, not being in Thor, is any of our vampire characters and werewolf characters from the otherTaikaandJemaineuniverse. You won’t see any of that.”
IfDaley Pearsondoes return inThor: Ragnarok, he will join a cast that includesTom Hiddlestonas Loki,Mark Ruffaloas Hulk,Cate Blanchettas Hela,Tessa Thompsonas Valkyrie,Jeff Goldblumas The Grandmaster,Karl Urbanas Skurge,Idris Elbaas Heimdall andAnthony Hopkinsas Odin. Marvel has set a July 28, 2025 release date forThor: Ragnarok, which started filming on the 4th of July in Australia. It isn’t known when Marvel will release the first trailer forThor: Ragnarok.
