Timothée Chalamet Is in “The Pursuit of Greatness”

Timothée Chalamet, like many before him, is on the verge of becoming one of the greatest actors of his generation. In fact, some would argue he is already there, but Chalamet is not settling down anytime soon. WithDune: Part Three, A24’sMarty Supreme, and a possible reunion with James Mangold on the horizon, he is certainly on that trajectory. However, he also seeks to establish himself as one of the all-time greats. After winning the Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role award forA Complete Unknown, Chalametspoke candidlyabout his aspirations as a performer, revealing the people that inspire him on his journey for “greatness.”

“I can’t downplay the significance of this award [known as The Actor] because it means the most to me, and I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is I’m really in the pursuit of greatness. I know people usually don’t talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight.

James Mangold

I’m as inspired by Daniel Day-Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola Davis, as I am by Michael Jordan and Michael Phelps, and I want to be up there. So, I’m deeply grateful to that [picking up his SAG Award]. This doesn’t signify that, but it’s a little more fuel, [and] it’s a little more ammo to keep going. Thank you so much.”
