TheTom and Jerrymovie will begin filming this summer after being officially announced last year. Additionally, the CGI and live-action hybrid story details have been revealed and it looks like it’s right in line with the relationship between the iconic cat and mouse duo that we have seen in the past.Fantastic Fourdirector Tim Story is on board to helm the project after finishing work on the latest movie in theShaftfranchise, which was also for Warner Bros.

It’s expected that theTom and Jerrymovie willshoot sometime this Summer at Warner Bros. Studio in Leavesden, England. A specific production start date has not been revealed. However, a synopsis for the story has been released. From the looks of things, it will be a typicalTom and Jerrystory set in the real-world. You can read the synopsis below.

Tom and Jerry

“Jerry the mouselives within the walls of a large, New England country home where he’s befriended the longtime owners, a loving elderly couple. Their unique, comedic friendship comes to an end after the elderly couple passes on and their house is put up for sale. When a young family moves in, Jerry’s determined to scare them away from taking over his home. The family quickly adopts astray cat named Tomto help rid them of their pest problem. In an epic battle for the house, Tom & Jerry soon discover their growing adoration for the family and must work together to protect them from an outside threat. Through their teamwork, they both learn the ultimate value of family and friendship.”

Tom and Jerryare usually known tofight each other in the original TV series, which will certainly be a part of the new CGI and live-action project. The characters were created and introduced in 1940 by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera and have starred in hundreds of cartoons since then. The cat and mouse duo have been on many adventures over the years including an animated movie in 1992 and several direct-to-DVD movies going all the way to 2002.

Tom and Jerrydo not speak in the cartoons and that will be the case in the upcoming movie too, which means that there is going to have to bea lot of physical comedythat they became famous for. However, over the years, their antics have somewhat been changed for a more tame version after some of their actions were deemed offensive or too graphic, which is something thatThe Simpsonslampooned with the mighty Itchy and Scratchy. Regardless, there will more than likely be a lot of interest in a live-action adventure for the duo.

WatchingTom and Jerryinteract with the real-world already sounds like a good idea, one that Warner Bros. is working hard on, having the live-action team and animation team working together closely. The idea sounds a lot like what Disney is trying to achieve with their live-action adaptation ofThe Lion King, which has come under fire for being called “live-action” since all of the characters are CGI.
