The high-octane action movie saw Max Rockatansky get captured by Immortan Joe’s forces and taken to the Citadel, one of the strongholds of the Australian wasteland. During an ill-fated mission, Max uses a sandstorm to escape, and finds himself aiding Furiosa (Theron), as she helps the Immortan’s prisoner wives escape to the promised land. The entire film is one gigantic car chase that never lets up on the intense, practical action.
Mad Max: Fury Roadwas released in theaters in 2015. It then took George Miller nine years to get back in the driving seat forFuriosa: A Mad Max Saga, which was released in 2024. The film castAnya Taylor-Joy as a young Furiosa,detailing her time as a child of the Green Place and her many years as a prisoner of another wasteland warlord, Dementus (Chris Hemsworth).
During the build-up toFuriosa’s release last year, George Miller revealed that he had plans for several moreMad Maxfilms, including a Max prequel movie. However,Furiosaunderperformed at the box office and earned middling reviews from critics. As a result,Miller’s plans for the future ofMad Maxwere thrown up in the air. It’s currently uncertain whether Warner Bros. will let George Miller get behind the wheel of anotherMad Maxfilm, or if Rockatansky’s time in the wasteland has come to an end.
