After shocking everyone with one of the year’s best action films,Twisters, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell, is officially heading to streaming. A legacy sequel to the beloved 1996 filmTwister, director Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) churned out a genuinely exhilarating thrill ride that creates its own tornado-filled path. The summer blockbuster hitTwistersarrives on Peacock later this year onNovember 15.
Produced by Universal Pictures,Twistersfollows former storm chaserKate Cooper (Edgar-Jones), who is lured back onto the field and into her hometown after tornadoes increase in quantity and intensity in some of the country’s most vulnerable areas. Her tragic connection to twisters fuels her desire to be able to slow them down one day, but things get complicated when social media star and storm chaserTyler Owens (Powell)enters the mix. Their extremely distinct philosophies clash as they confront catastrophic tornadoes multiplying like never before. The supporting cast includes Anthony Ramos, Brandon Perea, Sasha Lane, David Corenswet, Katy O’Brian, Harry Hadden-Paton, and Maura Tierney.

Heralded as an “immersive blockbuster,“Twisterslives up to its name and has no shortage of tornadoes for the ragtag team of characters to confront head-on. The disaster film doesn’t hold back fromthe destructive, lethal nature of the storms in some of the year’s most terrifying and thrilling sequences. Moreover, unlike most modern blockbusters, this one was shot almost entirely on film.Twisterswas undoubtedly made to be seen on the big screen with the loudest speakers possible, but it’s still more than worth the watch, albeit on streaming. With a91% Popcornmeterscore onRotten Tomatoes, it’s safe to say general audiences ended up embracing the film.
Twisters Shocked Everyone with a Non-Stop Thrill Ride
A standalone sequel with little to no connection to the original,Twistersdefies legacy sequel stereotypes and does not rely on nostalgia to engage its audience. Instead, the film recaptures the spirit ofTwisterby reinvigorating the disaster genre through innovative action sequences and a lead cast of characters impossible not to root for. The chemistry between Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell is palpable, but you’re going to have to watch the film to find out if their characters actually get together or not. Above all,Twistersis a film that is committed to putting the craziest tornado scenes ever put on screen, giving the 1996 original a run for its own money.
Twisters' Glen Powell Reacts to Claims He is More Appealing Than Ryan Gosling
The response after an unnamed producer pointed to the fact that Glen Powell is now a movie star who can drive people to movie theaters.
Twistersdid well at the box office with$370 million worldwide on a reported $155 million budget. The numbers may not be overly impressive at first glance, but the film certainlyover-performed during the opening weekend. Although the movie’s marketing had an uphill battle to convince people that a legacy sequel was necessary more than 20 years later, it proved to be a must-watch spectacle in theaters. It will assuredly find an even grander audience on Peacock this November, even though the movie theater format (especially 4DX) is the preferredTwistersexperience. Let’s just hope it returns to theaters at some point, whether that be a re-release or another follow-up to the franchise.

A follow-up to the 1996 original film Twister, Twisters is a sequel set years after the original, said to be fast-tracked by Steven Spielberg and Mark L. Smith, with Frank Marshal as producer. Little details exist about the film, but Helen Hunt is expected to reprise her role as Jo, with the film likely to pay homage to the late Bill Paxton.
