WithShawn Levynow on board, the movie has been put on the fast track, but it remains unclear when filming may begin.

Chris Prattalso passed on the Nathan Drake role in November 2014, just a few months afterGuardians of the Galaxyopened in theaters.David Guggenheim(Safe House) also worked on the script beforeJoe Carnahantook over the writing duties.Charles Roven,Avi Arad,Alex GartnerandAri Aradproducing for Sony, withJonathan Kadinoverseeing the project for the studio. Sony had most recently set a June 06, 2025 release date forUncharted, but they pulled it from their release schedule.
The project is based on the long-running video game series of the same name, followingNathan Drake, a descendant of Sir Francis Drake, who goes on a quest to find the lost city of El Dorado. Along the way, he runs into a rival treasure hunter, who must team up to fend off creatures, mutated Spaniards and Nazis.Shawn Levyis also slated to direct even more episodes ofStranger Thingsin Season 2. He most recently directed the big screen sequelNight at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, and he also directed the pilot episode of the upcoming ABC seriesImaginary Mary, fromThe GoldbergscreatorAdam F.
