Boasting an extensive career in the entertainment industry that dates back to his youth,Ben Affleckhas managed to capitalize on his hit movies and overcome a few flops to become one of Hollywood’s major players, successfully fulfilling a number of roles. In his youth, Affleck embarked on a formal acting career, rising to prominence with the coming-of-age comedy filmDazed and Confusedand emerging as a force to be reckoned with forGood Will Hunting, a drama film he co-wrotewith Matt Damonfor which they won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. That was his first time serving as screenwriter, a role he would reprise several times in different projects.
Following the premiere ofGood Will Hunting, Affleck followed up his acting career with highly successful productions, such asArmageddonandShakespeare in Love, although by the early-2000s, he hit a rough patch due to some critically panned projects, such asDaredevilandGigli. This was not the end of Affleck’s career, though, as after regaining critical acclaim for his work inHollywoodland, helaunched himself as directorwith the filmGone Baby Gone, gaining further recognition.
Since then, Affleck continues to work on successful projects as an actor, producer, director and writer. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom — July 01, 2025
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis an upcoming film that will hit theaters very soon: it is expected to premiere this December. However, although Affleck was originally part of the cast, he will not be featured in the final version of the movie, as the scenes in which he cameoed as Batman were cut at the last minute (viaCollider). This superhero film by James Wan serves as a sequel toAquaman, and its premiere will bring the original DCEU to an end.
In it, Jason Momoa is set to reprise the role of Aquaman, who must undertake the daunting task of protecting Atlantis and the entire world when a destructive power that could end it all breaks loose. Joining Momoa in this production are Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman.
The Instigators — Release Date TBD
The Instigatorsis one of Affleck’s most anticipated upcoming projects, as it will mark a new collaboration with Damon, which is something audiences have grown to enjoy. There isn’t a lot of information about this production yet, although it’s already defined as a heist film that follows two thieves forced to flee with one of their therapists following a heist gone horribly wrong.
Damon and Casey Affleck star in this Doug Liman film based on a script by Casey and Chuck Maclean. For his part, Ben serves as the film’s producer along with Damon. Supporting the main actors in the cast are Hong Chau, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ron Perlman. As of now, the film’s release date has not been announced.
Small Things Like These — Release Date TBD
This is yet another production by Affleck and Damon through their production company Artists Equity, although in this upcoming drama film, Affleck will serve as executive producer and Damon as producer.Small Things Like Theseis the film adaptation of Claire Keegan’s novel of the same name, published in 2021.
In it, Cillian Murphy produces and leads the cast as Bill Furlong, a coal merchant in a small Irish town operated by the church who, weeks before Christmas of 1985, uncovers a secret in the local convent that will shake up his life. Tim Mielants serves as director on this production that also features performances by Ciaran Hinds and Emily Watson.Small Things Like These’s release date has not yet been announced.

Ghost Army — Release Date TBD
Back in 2019, Affleck made headlines with the announcement that he would be attached to the historical wardrama filmGhost Armyas director and lead actor. And, while there has not been significant updates regarding this project in recent years, it has not been canceled either, which would indicate that it will still make its way to the silver screen at some point in the future.
This production was written by Nic Pizzolato based on the bookThe Ghost Army of World War II: How One Top-Secret Unit Deceived the Enemy with Inflatable Tanks, Sound Effects, and Other Audacious Fakeryand the Netflix documentary of the same name. It follows a squad of very creative soldiers tasked with making German forces believe that American troops were greater than they actually were.

King Leopold’s Ghost — Release Date TBD
King Leopold’s Ghostis another upcoming project on which Affleck will serve as director and producer, perDeadline, with Martin Scorsese also involved as producer and Farhad Safinia serving as screenwriter. This film inspired by true events and based on Adam Hochschild’s bookKing Leopold’s Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror and Heroism in Colonial Africawill center on the invasion and devastation of the Congo Free State in the 1800s at the hands of King Leopold II, as well as other events that took place during his reign.
Unstoppable — Release Date TBD
The wrestling biopicUnstoppableis another of Ben Affleck’s most anticipated upcoming projects, asit will feature his wife, music and movie star Jennifer Lopez. Affleck and Lopez met back in 2001 while shootingGigli, Martin Brest’s rom-com that was released in 2003. While their romance drew the attention of the media and audiences ahead of the film’s release,Gigliflopped at the box office and earned terrible reviews, making it one of the worst films of all time.
In 2021, 17 years after their separation, Lopez and Affleck resumed their relationship, and within a year they got married. Since then, audiences have been hoping to see them co-starring ina new rom-com, or at the very least, collaborating on something.
Unstoppableis set to make that wish come true, with Lopez as part of the main cast and Affleck serving as executive producer. This film has Billy Goldenberg serving as director and it will feature Jharrel Jerome portraying American wrestler Anthony Robles. WhileUnstoppablefaced several delays due to the impact of the Writers Guild of America strike, its production is set to resume sometime in the near future.
